Well while driving around yesterday & noticed the truck making some noises I discovered my passenger side hub bearing was toast...well flompy doodle!!!

Another $260 spent, but at least I know both front hubs are new & under warranty. No issues in replacement, used Moog just like the driver's side. Did have to reuse the axle nut until my order comes in. My order was suppose to be here today but a mix up at the warehouse delayed it another day. Hopefully tomorrow...

Didn't take pictures again! I had replaced the head lights about 90 days ago when one burned out. I watched a You tube video on how to do it and followed it took a couple of hours to pull the front end Yes I did say front end off the truck to change them! You pull the grill and bumper cover off along with the raditor cover and in the video I watched they pulled the front inter fenderwells down also. I did this on the drivers side and then realized that I did not need to do that at all. Took less than fifteen minutes to put it back together and now I think I can change them out from start to finish in less than an hour. Wish it was like my old 99 took about 15 seconds to change them out on it. :jester:

Won't be doing much out there today.

Got woke up at 4am by my CO alarm. Friggin stoker was jammed full of wet fines (ground up powdery coal). Had to drag my shop vac up the basement stairs, and outside into -17°F air. That was fun, lemme tell ya! Vacuumed out 120 lbs. of coal from the hopper so I could clean the feed paddle. Pain in the ass ...

House is 65° right now - can't get any warmer. Stoker is burning flat-out.

Good thing you have a CO alarm! Edited by SnakeEyes

There's no real danger in this 166 year old drafty barn. So many air leaks, I'd have to huff the chimney directly to get poisoned.

Looking at an 04 LB7 Dmax crew cab as a new play truck. Shouldn't have gotten rid of my 02, time to upgrade the play truck I guess lol

What's wrong with 65? We keep our house 65-68 in the winter

We normally keep it at 72°, since I installed that coal stoker boiler in October of '13. Before that, we spent many winters getting out of bed into a 55° house. Not very pleasant, to say the least. :shakehead: But 65° ain't bad at all, especially considering there was a 82° difference between indoor and outdoor temps - got down to -17°F this morning.

We started burning coal in a hand fired stove in '05. Was WAY undersized for the house, so below 30° outside, we froze in here. Lots of temps in the 50's. Bought a bigger unit in '08 just before the big panic hit, and lines of people filled every stove shop in MA. Installed a couple large stainless hot water coils in it and tied it into our oil boiler. That kept us comfortable (except below zero), but it was a hungry beast. Good thing about coal is you only have to mess with it every 24 hours (shake ashes out, and load coal in), but I had alot on my plate at the time ... and then a few tons of coal with rocks in it jamming the grates open pushed me over the edge. Sold that, and installed the stoker boiler. Just like a pellet stove, except it uses fuel that doesn't go bad when wet, and has 30% more BTU's per pound. It's hands off most of the time. I spend 5 minutes putting coal in every 24 hours, and I take the ashes out either every 24 hours, or week and a half, depending on weather extremes. Still cheaper than oil at the current prices here.

Chimney pipe install is far from ideal, but gotta run with what you brung. Not quite to code, lol.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
