Hail Damage :(

Recommended Posts

So last sunday in Calgary there was a wicked hail storm resulting in over 12,000 insurance claims. My truck happen to be caught in the middle of it on my way home. I took pics the next morning and you can see them below. Luckily i called in 15 minutes after getting home and was on the top of the pile for the adjuster to call me. I just had my appraisal yesterday and it was just over 9k in damage. They have to replace the hood since it's too far gone for paintless dent repair. On a positive note, i get new paint on the front end and I get to keep my truck!

When mine was damaged by hail, I was hoping they would replace the hood, there are a lot of stone chips that are driving me crazy! No such luck for me... I think mine was about $2500, but I was quite pleased with the paintless dent repair.

That was a nasty storm. The Mazda dealership 5 miles from our house had close to $1M damage. Basically punched out every back window, windshields, etc. There was a nice collection of golf ball sized hail stones away.

Just stupid crazy.... Totally missed our house (THANK GOD!) :)

Holy cow! What brand bed cover is that? Good luck on the fix.

The bed cover is a Retrax. The thing was basically brand new... Just shows how big the hail was to damage it that bad!

Thats golfball texture for sure there. I hope they get it fixed up.

Speed holes, makes my truck go faster ;)

Best news out of all of this is that since I was so proactive to call in and submit my claim, I was at the front of the line for everything and that includes the repairs. I get to drop my truck off Monday morning and it should be approx 20 days for repairs. Rental vehicle here I come!

20 days? Geeez... Sounds like a long time. I would guess it would only take 5 - 7 days for repair.

+1 on this! We had a nasty hail storm last year and a buddy had to have the roof on his '06 replaced and a new good along with lots of PDR and it only took them about a week. What are they doing for 20 days?

I have no clue! The appraiser told me about me a week but my adjuster told me that on the estimate sheet it shows approx 20 days for repairs. If i find out, i will let ya know. If i have my truck back in just over a week, someone had no clue what they were talking about.

Dropped off my truck today and the shop estimates between 20 and 25 days to complete the work.

Went to get my rental truck for the duration of the repairs from Discount. First thing I notice doing the walk around is that it has out of province plates- Ontario... I hope I don't get the stink eye driving down the streets. The guy also tells me that the service tire pressure monitor came on and that I need to go take it to a gas station and check the air and fill it up myself. Time to hop in the truck and be on my way.... nope. The DIC tells me to change engine oil soon. Now I'm thinking WTF. Scroll over to the oil life monitor and it says 0%. FIrst thing through my mind is that someone drove from Ontario to Alberta, dumped the truck off with 0% and was done with it. So I went back inside and the best they could tell me was that whoever did the assumed oil change must have forgot to reset the oil life. Fine, I reset it myself and left. Driving back to work I notice the vehicle doesn't feel right. Get back to my desk and start looking through the rental agreement and notice that the "known condition" of the truck has a shake in the front end over 60km/h. And I even notice that they put a limit to the total kilometers per day I am allowed to drive- 100km per day.

So this is my start to the month of crap I have to deal with for this rental truck.

I finally got to drive the rental truck home today since I had to take a work truck out home and out today. Noticed a funny smell but couldn't put my finger on it. I swore it smelled like someone smoked in the truck and then they tried to clean it and mask it with some scents. Got home and asked the girl friend to smell it for me and she said the same thing. Called the closest Discount to me and they won't take the truck back, I have to take it to the one I got it from... So I get transferred to the other location and they tell me they can swap it tomorrow with no issues. I hope the one tomorrow doesn't end up starting the same way this one did.

And btw, the repairs costs came to approx $9100 and that didn't include a new windshield ~$200, driver side rear view mirror(powered) ~$150?, and the 3M along the first 12 inches of the front end. So it's looking to be close to $10k in repairs!

Just called the shop where my truck is getting the work done and they informed I should be getting it back this week! The manager wasn't very happy with the paint work on some of the panels so he sent it back to have the painters redo them.

Excited I get my truck back so I can return this rental F*** F150!
