My Nuts are Stuck!!!!

I have the same rims, you might be able to get them apart with penetrating oil.

If not you might have to break them off and replace the plastic caps.

You mean to tell me your plastic cap, is held on to your steel lugs and its so tight they took the lugs off the tire? I don't believe you, just run a gun on them those plastic caps strip on the lugs very easy by hand even I can't see this happening sorry.

I agree. There were very loose lugs on that wheel. No way in hell those plastic POS nuts ever allowed anyone to torque them to 140 ft. lbs

I have run the gun on them, I had two separate mechanics try also at a tire store. Yes, for real, the plastic is holding the lug so tight that it took it off the tire.

Thats what I finally did, I had to chisel it and break it off. I just have to get one plastic cap now.

oh boy when the guy put on the lug nut he was to lazy to tight them all down with the impact my guess had it happen to me after having the tires changed out. now i guess the lug nut have gotten stuck in the plactic nut as he tight them up by hand i hope. i used a needle nose plier push it in side the lug nut and not opening them up this created a good enough bit to back them out.

You can get them @ Auto Zone or similar places.

There is no way the stock plastic cap can be attached to the stock wheel nut so tightly that it can be torqued down to the 130 lbs/ft of torque. Hell you can strip the plastic cap by hand. The plastic/vinyl the caps are made of cannot be strong enough to do it either.

Even if it were possible, why bother trying to take the cap off, just leave them on. You say an impact will not break them loose, so torque away on them and be happy, you are the only person to have nuts that cannot loose the covers like the rest of us have.

:bs: Those junky plastic covers only tighten to about 5 ft/lbs before they loosen back up again. There is no possible way to tighten them as the OP states, BS story, it can't happen. They would crack if they actualle touched the lug nuts and got to tight. There are threads on them that tighten to the plastic center piece of the wheel, not the lug nut itself...............nice story, try again.

Pics of the problem? I have got to see this real time. I keep losing my plastic nuts. I tend to overtighten them and probably stripping threads and poof...gone. I keep a couple on hand in the truck just for that reason.

Wow - nothing like coming here to tell everyone about a problem I am having and getting call a liar about it. Next time I will have sworn affidavits from the mechanics that work on my issue. I realize I am not and "Elite Enthusiast " such as you losers, but cut a guy some slack. Get out from behind your keyboards, there is a whole world to explore out there. :fingersx:

My ex was a ball-breaker beyond compare. Maybe she makes housecalls.

Dude, you had me crying on that one. LOL

Anyone have a part number for the plastic caps?

Unfortunately I didn't keep the packaging off mine. However, when I went to Advance and asked, they pulled them right up for my truck. Only ~$2 ea vs dealer wanted $7 ea.
