so I know this is a GM site and I am a die hard GM fan however my girlfriend is a Ford fan. Any way she needs to drive it a long ways and its in fair shape we jsut did a tune up on it. the new problem is that the wipers dont work the motor tries to make them go but its like they dont have the power to do it so am i on the right track to replace the wiper motor??????? it is a 1997 f150 xlt

also any other safety tips to check on the truck before i let her go on this trip???

You need to post in my traitor thread. My girlfriend has an F350.

But check tires, all fluids, check for any leaks, wipers as you mentioned, make sure there are no codes turning on a CEL

I think there needs to be a Competitor's Technical Support forum. but make sure the Wiper Linkage is properly Lubricated before Condemning the Wiper Motor. but as Chris said: check the Fluids for proper level and Color, make sure there are no leaks, and make sure that the PCM is Happy, and is not throwing any codes.

well we do have one code and it is saying that a o2 sensor is bad not sure which one my reader wont tell me but i was going to borrow someones that would tell me which one it was. and its just like the wipers just dont have enough power you can use your hand to help them go but they wont keep going by themself.

Like it has already been said I'd see if the linkage is binding- pull the motor off and see if the wipers can easily be moved by hand. If so, then the motor is shot. If not, then you probably need a new wiper linkage, and probably a motor too since it will likely be burnt out.

That's how my girlfriend and her family are

we didnt have any luck with figureing out the wipers however we did discover that the thermostat is stuck open and its the o2 sensor befor the cat on the driver side and so the fixing continues

we got the 02 sensor done the thermostat done and fixed the wipers the nuts that just held them on were loose we tightened them and they work fine now. although the heater does not work it has plenty of anni freeze and all the fuses and relays are good we are wondering if the heater lines are blocked or the heater core is bad anyone know how to test and locate these items?

ps it runs tons better then it did
