I just installed the Volant Cold Air system in my completely stock truck. Before the best milage I could get was 14.5 to 15.5. I've had it on for 400+ miles and now get 20 to 22!!!!!!!! My driving consists of a good mix of highway and city with temps being pretty cold here in Buffalo now. I'd say it will pay for itself in no time.

Dang it man are you yanking our chain here? Lets have some details. What truck (CC etc) What engine size What gears What tire size.. HOW MUCH? how hard is it to install? Do you work for Volant or have an interest in that company?Short answer to your first question, is yes.

Could be broke in more, you could be running it easy since you can hear it. Which is different from most people. In cruise mode your engine only going to ask for certain amount of air. It would be counter productive for any auto co. to restrict that much air, then spend millions to make them drop to V4. Also you can bring it in, but you still have to spit it out, headers, big exhaust. No Im not calling you a fibber but it was not just that, if it was I be buying a bunch of stock in that co.

Nice...the only way I'd get that mileage is down hill with an 80 mph tail wind and my tires inflated to 50 psi.

Between 75 & 85 most of the time on I70. I couldn't believe it coming from a 03 sierra on 33s getting 13-14 at those speeds

Wow and a 6.2 engine. Now this fella knows how to feather a gas pedal "hypermilling" You have to pay attention to what you are doing to get the really good mileage. I really think that most (maybe not all trucks some may actually have mechanical issues) are perfectly capable of achieving good mileage with the right operator.................. Just give it a serious try, set your DIC to the 25 mile range and start watching how your driving affects your mileage. You will probably discover that your driving habits are MUCH worse than you thought!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was on cruise for about 75%-80% of the time... the other 20%-25% I was glued to the MPG haha

Funny thing is the last 50 & 25miles of my trip was all side roads and back roads

I was thinking the same thing so i left my trip on for a while just to see. Pic attached

 

 

 

I brought the truck to GMC and they wouldn't look at it. They said bring it back after you get 5000 miles on it..

 

So I have to get 15mpg for a half a year before they look at it????

 

I also complained about my heater. My Dodge got hot heat in 2 minutes. This GMC takes more than 7 miles to get heat that is warm. I drive 7 miles in the morning, that's how I know. They told me to let it warm up in the morning then,, The remote allows 2 ten minute cycles.. So I said in this day and age you need to let a truck warm up for 20 minutes to get heat. How come my dodge got heat in 2 minutes. Is that another GMC design flaw? He said.. They are different trucks. LOL.. no shit one has modern engineering and a GMC threw the engineers out the window.

 

 

Well id get the heater checked on yours becuase mine warms up very quickly. I don't usually remote start mine as I am trying to see just how high I can get my MPGs so I don't run it unless I'm in the truck driving or getting ready to drive. Mine is shooting out hot air by the time I get down the street from my home (so after about a 1/2 mile. And I don't creep down the street, I go about 25-30mph

I understand that low temps cause a loss in gas mileage. The computer in the car is adjusting fuel air mixture for the lower temps and denser air going into the system so it adds GAS to even it back out. The thing thats hard to believe is the amounts of fuel I'm hearing on this site is it is a lot more than even I could dream of being possible. I guess that G.M. really did tune these for optimum fuel mileage.

I can get about 21-22 at 78 or so. It doesn't stay there for long because on my way to work I cross like 11 bridges in 30 miles. Sucks.

Yes if you really WORK at it you are going to get some good mileage I think I may be getting bored with mpg fight though. If you just ignore mpg and drive like you want to I think that might be your REAL WORLD mileage for you and your truck be it 18 or 12. Looks like I am at 15 REAL WORLD believe me I CAN get much better if I try but life is to short to fool with it Yawn I am worn out from previous mpg efforts going to take a nap now........................................

    • This is NOT impact damage nor neglect. There were previous class action lawsuits because of such paint preparation st GM manufacturing plant. Not just the Cherry Red Color. This paint is applied in three processes to obtain the desired color.  The manufacturer will cover for 36 months or 36k miles only. That rust is actually corrosion because of the paint process failure. Corrosion is covered for 100,100 miles or a certain months. However their corrosion doesn't include this type. Go figure. Clearly manufacturer knew from previous paint issues. This started 3 weeks ago out of the blue.  
    • Is it time to put a piece of tape over the CEL? 
    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
