Hi!

 

Need a bit of help. I had a leveling kit put on my 14 silvy and am running bfg all terrains. I like the look, however it rides like cement truck now. Over speed bumps the rear jumps hard and hits down hard. the front aswell if the speed bump is larger. im also bouncing all over the place on an uneven road.

 

im not quite sure the kit i got as i just went to a cap-it and they recommended one. maybe this was a bad idea? however I only asked for 2 inch front and an additional 1 inch for the rear. Based on reading this forum very little should be affected.

I also feel like it pulls to the right a bit aswell. alighnemnt was ok at first. not sure what would cause that.

 

I got a level as i was hoping to avoid these types of issues. Feel like i should have just wen with a true suspension lift now.

any ideas? the ride on these trucks was pretty nice and im disappointed it is so rough now. anyone else have this issue and maybe know how to help it? long shocks? better shocks? anything else to help?

Pull the 1 inch off the back. That's the problem. I have a 2.5 inch front only level kit from rc and it's level with 295/55/20s. It rides close to stock minus the mud tires. Also what is your psi at? 8cebd818e7e6d2453f2dc93f265d3ffb.jpg

I dropped my psi I think to 240 ish ( based on instrument panel reading ) if I remember right because when I drove the truck right after getting the tires they cranked them up. I read some where it may be psi so went that route right away and dropped them. I didn't notice much though.

 

the rear block really cause that issue? I like the rake and height. is there a reason it would cause that?

anyway around it to help the ride with it in? that kinda sucks :(

 

thanks for the reply by the way, I really mulled over the lift as I didn't want any issues but by reading this forum it eased my mind. but now im kinda regretting it. but hopefully I can get It a bit better.

I know it wont be stock, but wasn't expecting sucha big difference,.

Bring to a vote i guess, i know there are those of you running leveling kits for 200,000+ miles.

 

Leveling shocks?

 

Or

 

RC 2.5 kit?

 

One is obviously cheaper but i'm more interested in preserving the life of the suspension and front end while still lifting/leveling it 2.25-2.5.

One is obviously cheaper but i'm more interested in preserving the life of the suspension and front end while still lifting/leveling it 2.25-2.5.

 

If you're going to install a spacer kit of any kind that gives in the area of 2" lift or more, you're likely going to loosen the upper ball joints prematurely unless you go to an aftermarket UCA.

 

The shock is the extension limit stop on these trucks. Spacing the shock for lift, also lets the suspension extend further and reportedly over travel the upper ball joint angle. Shocks like the 5100 and others that have adjustable height, don't change the extended length when you adjust the spring pad height to change the ride height.

 

Even my 2008 with 5100s only went about 140,000 and the upper ball joints were shot. Those 5100s were set at the first position above the lowest. (5/8" lift).

I had the same set up. Switched to rancho quicklift loaded and rides awesome now. It's a complete strut replacement with a little over 2" of lift

That was with a 5100 shock. They don't let the control arm extend any further than stock and bang against the ball joint limits, even on their highest setting. Guys with the 2-2 1/2" spacer kits in the GMT900 (same suspension as a K2) were experiencing very short UCA ball joint life.

 

Any leveling or lift that doesn't move the front differential down will increase the angles on the CV joints (all leveling kits and ride height adjustable shocks)

So new UCAs is a good investment. Do you think the angle a 2-2.5 level puts on the CV axles is that detrimental?

    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
