Questions about my new 2014

No the High Country knobs around the radio are not lit either. I do have LED lights inside the bed though. I have a question - there is a little light that shines down on the center console from above - I don't care for it at night and nothing in the owners manual appears to mention it. Does everyone have this?

Funny how they don't even mention it in the manual. In other vehicles I have owned they do describe these ambient lighting lights as a "Map Light". The idea is that you would be able to read a map w/o turning the actual overheads. At least that was how the manual in one of my cars described it. They are typically blue or red as those color wavelengths tend to minimize dilation in the eye.

Well the bright little "dot" light gives you more than enough light to view things with. I'd think the lights around the knobs would be for a "cool" look. The ones on the light and 4x4 knobs do look sweet.

Since this topic was generated specifically about GMC AT I'll add a comment that I posted on my truck thread. My AT showed up yesterday and it had a manufacturer modification. They added steps to the painted bumpers. When i ordered this was not even an option. All the other AT's on the lot had no steps. The painted bumper w/ steps was reserved for the Denali only. For whatever reason they decided to make this standard on the AT also. I love that they did!

Any update from anyone on the blue LED light ring for the radio? My truck was in for service yesterday, and I mentioned it. They never heard of this issue. We check some trucks on the lot, some work, some didn't (most didn't). They tell me they will investigate and get back to me. I wonder if anyone else found out anything, thanks.

From what I heard, they won't fix it. The reason they won't fix it is because GM has not put out a recall on it.

Recalls are for safety related items, no? (ie: bad electrical, mechanical, something that could lead to a fire, or a crash, etc.).

 

I would expect something like the radio/HVAC knob lights to be covered by a TSB, but not a recall. I could be wrong though? But I don't see this issue being a SAFETY issue.

Ok all ive got a fix for the radio knob lights.. it takes about 1hour and 1.49 at radio shack.

you'll need a t-10 torx and a 7mm socket and a trim tool ( or whatever you can improvise) and radio shack part number 271-007 (2.2k ohm 1/8 what resistors) they come in a pack of 5..you need 4.

 

FIRST OFF I'M NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING, do these repairs at your own risk.

step 1- remove crome trim from around radio and ac controls

step 2- remove 4 bolts securing radio/ climate control unit and remove assembly from dash

step 3- unplug radio and ac harnesses

step 4- remove 13 T-10 torx screws securing cover to back of screen amd sit to cover to the side

step 5- disconnect ribbin from radio circuit board to control board and lift control board forward on screen

step 6- remove 6 T-10 torx screws holding radio control board in and sit scree. Assembly to the side.

step 7- locate 4 slots missing resistors ( THANKS GM) R30, R32, R34 and R36.

step 8-solder resistor to solder joints on circuit board.

step 9- reassemble and enjoy your lights!

 

I will try and post pics when I can get on a computer.

No its not hard to remove, you just lift the tab up that clips the ribbon into the board and lift the ribbon out. and I cant imagine any warranty being voided, no one would even know that this repair was done, I highly doubt dealer would go this deep. Also the resistors could easily be removed if needed.

How do you remove the chrome trim from around the radio? Is it just taped on there with double sided tape?

No it has the trim clips.. and they are TIGHT.. If you can I would use a trim removal tool.. there is actually a video on you tube.. just search for 2014 chevy screen removal..or something to that effect.. there are 8 of them clips.. you just have to pry pretty good to get them started snd that whole chrome bezel will pop off.
