Hope your but I think they will just ignore the 2014 models with issue and fix it on 2015 models

Truck owners are probably the most brand-loyal vehicle customers in existence. If GM doesn't want to admit there is an issue, FINE... but fix it for those who want it fixed. 99% of owners won't even notice or care.... however for those of us who do, it is a slap in the face to act like it's not a problem or hide behind some advertisement disclaimer.

Ok all ive got a fix for the radio knob lights.. it takes about 1hour and 1.49 at radio shack.

you'll need a t-10 torx and a 7mm socket and a trim tool ( or whatever you can improvise) and radio shack part number 271-007 (2.2k ohm 1/8 what resistors) they come in a pack of 5..you need 4.

FIRST OFF I'M NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING, do these repairs at your own risk.

step 1- remove crome trim from around radio and ac controls

step 2- remove 4 bolts securing radio/ climate control unit and remove assembly from dash

step 3- unplug radio and ac harnesses

step 4- remove 13 T-10 torx screws securing cover to back of screen amd sit to cover to the side

step 5- disconnect ribbin from radio circuit board to control board and lift control board forward on screen

step 6- remove 6 T-10 torx screws holding radio control board in and sit scree. Assembly to the side.

step 7- locate 4 slots missing resistors ( THANKS GM) R30, R32, R34 and R36.

step 8-solder resistor to solder joints on circuit board.

step 9- reassemble and enjoy your lights!

I will try and post pics when I can get on a computer.

Any idea if the same process applies/is possible for the ac fan knob? My fan knob is missing the led lights along with the two radio knobs. I imagine I can pull the ac control panel and see if thr resistor is missing. Thinking i may go after this project this weekend.

Good luck getting the a.c. Knob out. I tried and I feel like if I go any further than I did it would break. If you find a way around this let me know.

The board wasnt the same setup as with the radio?

What was the point you got stuck? Trying to pull the board out?

Did you successfully complete the radio mod?

What was your experience/opinion about how the chrome trim around the radio comes off? Easy? Pointers?

So it's semi different than the radio, it's a lot harder to get out than the radio one. You are able to get to the circuit board however your not able to see the fromt of it. The reason is, the knobs won't pull threw and neither will the buttons. I don't know how that works so I haven't proceeded forward. To get the trim off is easy once you popped off cause it softens it up. However, for the first time I would recommend using tiny suction rings and start at the top and work down. The heated seats modual is attached to the trim so it comes out together. You can also use flat head to seperate the trim. Be careful because it will scratch the trim or console of your not careful.

I forgot to do the ac fan knob..kicking my self in the butt...but I did pull thr assembly out.. there are several black clips that hold it in the assembly. Then the white back plastic cover will pop off... I also couldn't figure out how to go any father. . I can't imagine that led is different.. but I don't know. It is two separate circuit boards so you never know.

Do those HVAC knobs light up (red) in everyone's Sierras?

So would it be possible to swap out the Silverado radio/HVAC to the Sierra unit, if you don't mind going from blue lighting to red? Don't want to imagine what the out-of-pocket cost would be, but if the Silverado lighting isn't working, and the Sierra lighting DOES work ....then could that be the "warranty fix"? (......I'd go for red back-lighting!)

No lights around the HVAC continues my Sierra SLT and doesn't show lights around them in brochure either. But honestly I could care less about the stupid LED's...

I have a 14 LTZ 4x4 built in September, no lights around knobs. My brother in law just picked up his 14 LTZ Z71 2wd and he HAS the lights around the knobs…..so this is just not a GMC thing. Would really like to hear an explanation from GM on this one!

I have an LTZ Z71 4x4 loaded with no lights around the radio knobs I am wondering if trucks built in Canada are different than ones built in Mexico. Mine was built in Mexico

My bad I thought all of the trucks no matter what the body style were built in either Canada or Mexico. I don't know what the body style of the one with the working lights was. I still wonder if build location has anything to do with it.
