trading my 2014 sierra...

Touche, didn't see that. However, the cost would be well below $4000.

As I stated, it would NOT be well below $4,000 for 20"s and all terrain tires, new OEM front/rear diffs and hardware, and a retune. It would be well over $4,000 actually.

These trucks are equipped w/ electronic locking diff, traction control, and adapative transmissions, you can't just throw gears in the thing and call it a day. Theres more hardware/software to tackle than in older vehicles, and AGAIN - you instanly void your warranty. I already looked into it.

As far as the 3.73's are concerned, that's pushing it for me - I do alot of highway driving and don't need it or the max trailering package. While the 6.2 is going to be nasty, again it is overkill for me. I'll take the 6.2 in a camaro or vette and actually have a fast vehicle rather than a thirsty truck (not that the 6.2 sierra won't be quick, its just - what's the point?) - My opinion anyhow.

Apples to oranges. I stated that a gear swap would be less than $4000, which is true even if these trucks have electronic locking diffs (which I'm pretty sure they don't) and "adapative transmissions" (no idea what this even means). If the OP is buying a new truck just to have steeper gears, then he is wasting his money. If he's doing it for the gears, tires, wheels, etc then that's a different story.

Nope, 100% not true. #1 - you just bought a $50,000 truck now you void your warranty? - It has an electronic locking differential, you would need GM OEM parts, they're expensive I looked into it. You also need to change the front diff/transfer case, get a retune from either aftermarket or the factory. It is different than gear swaps on previous gen trucks.

Drive both back to back - REALLY drive them, I didn't notice it initially just putting around, but then I drove a 3.42 equipped truck like I stole it and the difference is significant, it'll smoke the tires and fishtail through 1-2 gears - nothing close to that on a 3.08 truck. It is a whole .6 seconds quicker to 60mph - that is a legit difference.

If you think it is drastic to do, take a look at what I spent and tell me if you could swap out your shocks/struts/rims/tires/gears for $4,000, keep a warranty, and get reverse the 5,000 miles you already have on your truck so the odometer reas ZERO....yeah didn't think so.

I'm just trying to keep from having buyer's remorse and/or spending additional money on mods in the future. I KNEW I was going to swap out the tires/rims in the very least on the current SLT I have, and that would run about 1/2 of what I'm paying for an entirely NEW truck w/ more options....

sounds like you bought the wrong truck to begin with (hey it can happen). and it does indeed sound like you're making a decent move, financially speaking, in your current position. make sure to post some pics of the new beast when you have it

Did happen...like I said had to get out of my current ride and although I KNEW I wanted a new sierra there weren't very many out there at the time. I'm glad I am doing this now rather than having buyer's remorse later, or spending tons on mods. Other than tinting the front windows and putting on an exhaust (which I already have) there's nothing I want done to this new All terrain. I have the weathertech mats/window visors as well I can swap right onto it from my white SLT too.

I will post pics on Friday once in my posession.

Hi i am a newbie on this forum. looking at a denali but the 0-60 seems a bit sluggish and I like the idea of the 3.42 gearing.

How much will the 3.42 drop your highway mileage? I'm coming out of a BMW 550 and a 2008 silverado, both of which get less than 18 mpg on the highway... The 550 has some descent 0-60 numbers though. I just don't want to sacrifice too much at 70 mph

If you are concerned about 0-60... get another BMW ...m6 should be good.

Some pics of the new own- so glad I made this swap when I did. The ride is much better, tighter handling, quicker acceleration, the rims/stance/tires are more aggressive, all around more what I had in mind.

This is a black on black on black standard bed CC w/ all terrain & z71 packages, hill descent, and 3.42 gears.

Looks good. Stay well away from a 6.2L....

Shouldn't be hard considering the 2014 6.2s aren't even on the roads yet.

I'm not concerned about the 0-60, but I don't want to be a slug on the road either. The 5.3 drives great, a little throttle lag particularly compared to the F150, but nice power. But, if a different rear helps, why not?
