Mine has been in below zero temps with no issues to the can. I drained it more frequently during the winter also

Does anybody know if I am going to have a problem with my can if that moisture that I cant in it freezes in the winter time? That could be an issue couldn't it?

 

I personally haven't had any issues, but this line of thought does make sense in theory and I agree there will be freezing of the can contents so I've been draining my can every 750 miles or so. I got about 5 ounces out of it last night that was mostly water. Given the capacity of the RX can, the fact that the filter and air ports are at the top, and the oil/water collect at the bottom, I would think it would have to be pretty full for freezing to be an issue. But either way I personally prefer to drain it more often just to make sure the level stays low.

 

On another note, I know I've read on here that the RX can doesn't require cleaning which is why it's completely sealed up, but every other can on the market seems to be able to be opened up so you can inspect it and clean it out. Does anyone know more on this issue?

Just wondering how well your can's working for you on your 6.2. I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, should arrive any day now.

Mine is working out just fine. I get about1-2oz of milky brown oil/moisture evry 1,000 miles or so. I live in WI so we definetly have the cold and no problems thus far. I actually used the factory PCV connections attached to the new CC lines. Makes fro a nice clean install. Like others said clamps are not really needed but I used those black plastic clamps and again I think it makes it look cleaner.

Once again GM and most manufactures will not do anything. Reason being is owners cant be relied on to empty the catch cans frequent enough to insure no engine damage would happen. If the can gets full then at some point liquid oil will be forced into the engine which could/would cause lots of issues and or damage.

Built my own catch can from 3" pvc pipe & stainless pot scrubbers. After 350 miles drained 1.5 ounces of oil. Just can't believe that GM doesn't do something about this.

Got pictures? I was thinking of building one like this, then your post popped up.

I hear what you say. They would have to put a sensor on it. However, There appears to be oil already in the intake manifold. When we put my RX on we vacuumed out oil. Wish I had put a catch can on from the day I drove off the lot. I Will if I ever trust GM enough to buy another one.

I am not computer smart. Don't know how to put pictures on here barely can type. It's a 11" piece of 3" pvc pipe with a cap on top & bottom. Inside is a divider made of a 3"x6" stainless steel sheet bent at a 90 degree angle at the top & at the bottom. The top of the divider is pop riveted to the cap. The bottom of the divider is pop rivited to a piece of 3" round cut stainless steel sheet with 1/4" holes drilled in it to allow the oil to drain into the bottom. On both sides of the divider I put 2 stainless steel pot scrubbers for the filter. Then put an old style radiator drain in the bottom cap. Then thread in the hose nipples on the top. In the middle of building a 2nd one to put behind the first. A small amount of oil is still getting through because I used a in line fuel filter behind the can & it has a small amount of oil. I just received my RX can today and I can honestly say this thing is WAYYYY...over priced and a POS... IMO! If you want details PM me.

Why the PM lay it out here man. I've been impressed with the performance of mine so far. My only complaint is the outlet port is at a slight angle so I suspect the guy that drilled it didn't have it plumb but it's solid as a rock and has worked great for about 1,400 miles so far.

Ok...Maybe POS was a little strong but the Quality is lacking in a big way for me... Riding HD's for 30 years now and the standard finish for parts these days come powder coated (END OF STORY) this thing is rattle canned no doubt about it. I started peeling the Decals off and the damn paint peeled off with it also the clean side filter had a chip on it. Some of you guys might be ok with that but I'm not.. NOT $280 worth!!!!

 

Another thing is that I ordered it for my 2014 Silverado 1500 5.3 and came with a whole bunch of crap I did not need. I used most of my stock fittings on the hose ends and had to modify for the cold air (Airaid MIT) which I specified that I had.. which is a waste of money for the consumer. In fact I made the cross over tube work from the Airaid MIT tube to cross over the valve covers for the clean side filter.

 

I will media blast the Canister and Clean side cove and have it Powder Coated like it should have been done from the start for the hard earned money I shucked out. Only time will tell if it actually works as described. Done with rant!

Have you contacted them to let Em know the issue?

 

Mine is painted body color on my car quality and definitely not rattle canned

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper. 
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back. 
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
