2014 Headlights

Been reading through the topics regarding changing out the HIR halogen headlights with HID kits, seems like a lot of cost and confusion and hassle trying to get HIDs to work on the '14 trucks So my question is this.... If all you want is a whiter/bluer light (less yellow than halogen) why not just upgrade the halogen bulbs with Silverstar Ultras or Silverstar zXe?? I ask because I am debating this too, would like the headlight to match the LEDs on my '14 GMC better....

Hids aren't hard see my other thread. Just need a relay kit and a capacitor.

Not difficult at all. I have the 35 watt 6000k kit from DDM tuning along with the harness. Works perfectly. I think you can get everything for around $45 plus shipping. I have a Sierra SLT (which I believe have) and have had this setup for over two months with no issues all. You only need the capacitors if you have the Silverado (any Silverado) or the Sierra SLE...

Alternate halogen bulbs were discussed in the "HIR to HID" thread. Take a few mins and read the entire thing.

I tried 9006 zXe's... a little whiter than stock but still not a true white.There's still a noticeable difference b/w the zXe's & factory LEDs.

4500-5000k HIDs are the only way to get true white (LED matching) headlights. But adding them may involve their own difficulties (depending on your knowledge/skill level). Again, read the entire "HIR to HID" thread and then post any further questions.

I did the silverstars it was a little better then the stock but not that noticable. I do like the putco LED bulbs I just put in

Any special wiring necessary for the Putco LED's or Plug n Play? Do you have a link for the exact model number?

no wiring and more important to me it fits inside the cap, you have to push a little to form the flexible heat sink but nothing excessive.

no link I picked them up from my dealer, the accessory guy is tight with Putco.

^ I want HID's on my truck but want OEM's. Looking at the LTZ headlight assemblies and doing the '15+ Tahoe HID's.

buy the retrofit source hid kit put together for specifically for our trucks. I bought the kit and it was basically P&P. only thing you have to modify is the dust cover on the back of the headlight assembly. I have had the hids for about 3 months now and have had no issues.

I think your money would be better spent getting a readily available oem projector rather than the Tahoe. The Tahoe won't bolt up anyway so your going to have to retrofit whatever you stick in there.

Thanks for the info. I just purchased a set of the Putco LEDs, I was considering HIDs but didnt want to take a chance burning the housing unit. I also like the fact the LEDs can fit in the the factory housing.
