Also allows you to keep the USB in the Glove box.

 

I am a few days from finalizing this... just waiting for the correct color USB cables. Once I retest everything, I’ll make up the 42-way connector and plug my jump seat harness into the from the console harness.

If you could show me how to make this I would be your friend for life lol.....better still just let me drive up to Dallas and I could watch you install it on yours and then I could tackle mine with your supervision?

Wow!!! That looks incredibly good!!  After reading this thread, I am pretty concerned about doing the wiring - "4 pin this, 6 pin that" splicing wires, brown USB connectors, I really am feeling overwhelmed....



I was super nervous as well to. But once I had both consoles next to each other/upside down, I removed the entire harness from jumpseat and laid it out on the new console. It all started coming together super easy. I’m no electrical wizard either.. the pictures posted made it super simple

Okay, that is what I will do as well flip them both over and try and figure things out then....I really don't need the USBs to work in the front I do want all the things inside the console to work, and maybe the 12v outlets in front?

Yep.. it’s not too bad. Once you have both harnesses out, it’ll make sense. The harness routes to the lid and getting in those cavities to remove it sucks. Getting the harnesses out is a pain and one of the driving reasons why I wanted to leverage the 42-pin connector that’s on the front of the Full Console. Using the jump seat harness, I’ll cut the opposite end off, install a 42-Pin mate connector and plug into the front the console connector. This way, I won’t have to remove the harness in the full console and it remains instant.

On the 12V plugs, there are 4 total. If you look at the either harness, you’ll see two large Violet/Yellow Strip. What most are doing is simply splicing 2 - 12V into each of those wires. I’ll take it a step further as the drawing shows the 4th Plug drawing power from its own circuit from the X51L Fuse Panel. When I’m done, it’ll be wired up just like it did if it came from factory... that’s the plan at least.

Pgamboa, you really know your stuff.  I would love to do the plug and play method you are describing but I think that may be beyond my capabilities.  If I do it the splice method will I need to remove both wiring harnesses (jump seat wiring harness and new console wiring harness)  - to create one that will plug directly into the under the seat connector?  Also, where did you get the 42-pin female connector?

You will need to completely remove the jump seat harness. You do not have to completely remove the console harness. You can unplug the items needed on the console and make the necessary changes and then plug it back in. I found some of the plugs hard to get to and then realized you don't have to unplug them to do the work. With your new console upside down and the jump seat harness laid next to it, it becomes pretty clear what needs to go where. With the write up and pics I did back on Page 74-76 its pretty straight forward.

I got it from Mouser. It was one digit off in the part # from what I needed because the correct one is no where to be found. The difference in the connector is the “keying”. No biggie though. I was able to shave off portions of the connector to get it to fit. “Keying” is done so that you cannot Plug Connectors in the wrong spot.

I’ve got a wiring diagram made with pics to illustrate what I’m doing, a video to be made as well.

I also made a cross reference sheet of both connectors showing all the circuits on each. It’ll also show what circuits are present in each so that you’ll see what needs to be added. The good thing is that all the circuits in the jump seat harness ARE present in the Full Console Harness. So this will make for an easy “plug in” scenario.

What will be left at that point is landing the wireless charging lid circuit, compartment lamp circuit, wireless charge indicator circuit, and the last 12V circuit from their originations to the 42-way connector.

If I recall, they come from:

X51L Fuse Panel - Wireless Charging Lid
X51L Fuse Panel - (1) - 12V Plug
BCM - Wireless Lid Charging Indicator

I’m not home right now but will continue working on this over the next few days.

Thank you very much b18cx.  I will pull the jumb seat out this weekend and give it a shot as long as my front bracket comes in by then.  I will reread your posts on 74-76 again.

Okay thank you!  I will keep reading and try to eliminate any stupid questions I have.  I have to wait until the bracket comes in anyways before I begin the process.  You guys are a tremendous help!!

Does anyone have a Tan (Cocoa/Dune) jump seat you want to get rid of. Looking for tan leather, but would take tan cloth too.

Does anyone know if this console swap can happen with an E-Assist model or if there is any difference between what’s under the E-assist model and a regular model?

It looks like I have some type of ventilation system underneath the jump seat.

I already can’t use intakes/intake tubes so I just want to make sure before I try this mod out.

Hi! I have a 2017 Silverado LT that I bought about a month ago. I already have the floor console but can't seem to get one clip off from the jump seat. I have posted a picture. It looks like it has a red clip but have been trying to get it off for an hour. Is it an unplug and plug in to the console? Thanks!

Slide the red tab away. The push down on the black tab on top. These are sealed connectors (inner seal) so sometimes you have to work them out. But that red lock tab is extra assurance to prevent it from coming loose n

You can also lift the entire plate from those side to be able to grab it better.

I try to slide it away but it seems to get stuck on something. Where should I press down for it to fully slide out? I was in there for a good 3 hours I feel dumb and still couldn't get it out. Thanks for your help!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
