Finally finished the rearview camera mod.. took long enough.. :D Took some tweaking to get it as level as I could and the right angles, along with some LED strip for the brake light and swapped out my old brake flasher to one with a timeout.

Rearview camera upgraded/mod 19-22 rearview camera mirror

How did you attach it to the brake light housing?

For the angle I wanted it was pretty much touching the top of the inside housing(back of the camera). I added some double sided tape(the one used for attaching like cell phone panels) to build it up to the right angle and then I just hot glue gun it to the top housing once I got the views I wanted. I know it will stay put, as I had to remove it a couple times and I was having a hard time removing the hot glue on the housing.. :D

I used silicone adhesive to seal around the camera lens from the inside. Basically put a bead around the lens housing and pushed it in so it would seal.

I have some other ideas after doing this one, might get another 3rd brake light off eBay and play with it. There was a listing on eBay for the 19-22 third brake light with camera, got an offer to buy it for $75.. but vendor said it was a customer return since the person bought it and hooked up the camera and it didn't work for them.. Vendor has no way of testing it if customer error or if it's really broken.. 🤦‍♀️ Listed as new.. 😕

You could get a adapter cable to switch to the RCA camera those are cheaper. It's not plug and play you would have to find a power and ground for the camera. It might be worth a shot in the name of experimental trials. Something like this.

TUOLNK 2 Pack 6 inch Fakra Z Male to RCA Male Pigtail Cable for Car DVD GPS Antenna Extension Cable Pigtail Jumper Coaxial Cable RG174 https://a.co/d/eZY5B5a

AutoSky Reverse Backup Camera HD Wide View Angle Universal Car Front Side Rear View Camera - 2 Installation Option - Removable Parking Lines - Mirror or Non-Mirror Image https://a.co/d/dFldwfE

Yeah, I didn't want to take a chance and be out $85 since seller already told me about the issue. Plus the discount offer expired already.

Took me a couple weeks just to find time to install this one . 😅

Installed the BT diesel Autosync and did the thermostat bypass on the transmission of the 2018. Also Installed a wireless Android Auto box and wireless fast charger. And hid the radio antenna under the hood and made a wire to hook it back up.

I didn't take any while I was doing everything. Here's some after shots.

The wireless Android Auto box is below the tray with the charger on it. For the charger I used the same parts @jpinoy used. The wireless Android Auto box.

A2Air Wireless Android Auto Adapter  https://a.co/d/eObc88l

And the bypass kit for transmission thermostat.

The red wire is connected to the antenna.

Awesome! Now you get to find out all of the cool stuff this can do.
Make modifications on your computer and download them to you truck via wi-fi!
There are so many options - it ain't cheap - you have to unlock the different modules for you VIN, but it's well worth it!

I would if they would unlock it already. I paid for the unlock and it hasn't happened yet.

How is the navigation volume to music volume ratio? I put an android radio in my wife's car and the navigation volume is pretty low unless you have volume cranked up on music.

So, I turned on the full navigation and it does the same thing, it will lower the music volume when giving directions. I don't listen to my music really low, but I don't crank it up all the time(only certain songs :D ) .

I didn't bother with the other settings(boost) as I thought it sounded ok.

Just keep going through the options online in the BTDiesel page.
It's like peeling an onion - so much to do and test and then more to do and test.
Just re-upload for each iteration.

Ran a load of recycling to the recycling center, on my way to work, gassed up, and gave it a LONG overdue bath.

OH, and I drove over the 55K mile mark.

Hopefully Ben at BT diesel will get the Bcm tuning back soon so I can change all the things I want to change. I have already went through the list and made the changes. so when it's possible to get the Bcm tune license i can just load it right to the autosync.

    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O.
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
