Either way, it sounds like they will be lit going forward (2014 build dates). There were early brochure pictures that show the outer two rings lit up however. Which is why some people were upset. attachicon.gifUntitled.jpg

They are supposed to be lit up just as the radio knobs. See the bulletin I posted earlier , as well as all the early marketing material. A good friend of mine has an August build date and they are illuminated. attachicon.gif2014-GMC-Truck-Pictures.jpg

Ok both of these pictures are from the GM roll out of these trucks. Maybe these are even the prototypes. There are probably some things on them that DID NOT make it into the production trucks. Every GMC I have seen so far has red rings around the radio volume and fan speed button. None around the temp control knobs. Man this is getting out of hand which ones do and which ones don't light up.

This IS a Sierra SLT with Dual Controls build date 12-11-13

On the DUAL Temp HVAC system on this truck the temp controls do not appear to have the little clear part behind the knob that makes them light up, they actually have a chrome ring tight against the knob! My conclusion is that the (2) Dual Control HVAC TEMP knobs are not intended and cannot be backlighted? Please if ANYONE has a Sierra that has the Dual HVAC has these temp knobs lighted up speak up. I do not have access to the standard hvac single control so I cannot say if they should be lit up or not. I do see the promotional material where they show the backlighting so maybe Hmmm maybe not now I am totally confused. Anyway here are a couple of pics, notice the chrome trim ring around the temp knob perimeter.

The 1st post here has the links to the picture used. It shows the roll out Chevy with the auto climate controls and the GMC with the manual climate controls. Also if you look at the GMC it looks like it has heated seats only. My trucks has heated seats only however the buttons on mine and the ones pictured are different.

Both my 14 LTZ and 14 LT loaner with dual zone do not have the HVAC dial controls illuminated nor look like they have lights (they have the aformentioned chrome ring).

My Silverado heated seat button is like yours. Just split into 2 parts. Heated cushion and heated back and cushion. Looks better than the pic you found, imho.

This is the Bull Crap my dealer is telling me. This is the bullentin GM sent to the dealers

At the beginning of production for 2014, these rings were not illuminated. As a running change, these rings are now illuminated.

Explain to the customer their vehicle is operating normally.

Do not attempt to repair or replace any parts to alter the original vehicle design intent. You may wish to give the customer a copy of this bulletin.

Note: It should also be noted that all service parts have the rings turned on, so any repairs to these trucks will cause the rings to function.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information

Take it to a different dealer and see if they'll help you... It's a shame for GM to be treating us like this on a clear manufacturing error.

Yours is the same as mine. The temp knobs are not supposed to have light around them. The issue with the other knobs not being lit is only on the Chevys. The GMC's are lit. Probably because they have a different color around them and would have a different board.

I figured this thing out now. GM has decided that even if you received a truck that had 3 tires one size and one of a different size that it was a model change and nothing you can do about it. If you want your backlighting to work then you need to pony up the required fees and have it fixed or in my example if you want a 4th tire the right size you friggin go buy yourself one. This is Government Motors and you will CONFORM are you guys trying to be unamerican or what??? Get with the program bichs. LOL besides you should have bought a Sierra as GM makes more profit on these puppies.

Got an update from the dealer today. The dealer has agreed they should be working. GM told them that they can be replaced if it will satisfy the customer. They said if it is for customer satisfaction, they should. However, the dealer has to get approval from the regional rep before ordering the new modules. They are awaiting a response. Once that's done, I'll know where I stand. I have to give kudos to the dealer, they are doing all they can. That being said, I can't say I expect them to foot the bill without some kind of reimbursement from GM if the rep decides against it.

Recently I had mine replaced and had no issues with dealer telling me they wouldn't fix it. They asked if they ever worked and I was honest and said no. I also had a whistle issue where the drivers door needed adjusted too. I have purchased quite a few vehicles from them and my son will be turning 16 soon so another sale for them.

i didnt read all these posts, but it appears there is a little confusion, with the Dual (auto) climate control only the fan knob in the middle is supposed to have a backlight, on the manual climate control both the knobs, (Fan and temp) have the back light. Both models should have the radio knobs backlight.
