mine was finally completed this morning.. same thing customer satisfaction. so all new hvac controls are illuminated. the radios have 2 different p/n's. if you dont specificaly tell them the situation they will just replace the radio with the same p/n radio that was removed, with out light on.. so they are still making 2 different radios

New info. Thanks. When mine was done, there was a lot of confusion about the part numbers. I was told both used same part numbers. Good to know this is not the situation going forward. Amazing.

I have a base 1WT and have the LED rings around both radio and climate control knobs. All Silverado's regardless of trim should have the lighted rings.

You have them because you have single climate control, not dual zone.

If the brochure pictures are marketing mock ups and show illumination then it proves they are supposed to have them.

Shame on gm for not doing the right thing here. Trying to squirm their way out!

Marketing materials were likely using photos of preproduction vehicles or may not even be real photos but CGI. Not saying what GM has done is right but it is what it is.

If an owner buys the "working" units themselves and replaces them, does any programming need to be done for them to work, or is the pertinent information in a control module and automatically connect to new radio, hvac?

I'm guessing the new head units will have to be programmed, just wonder if anyone has tried yet on their own.

If you look in the thread, there are some who found that the only difference between working and non-working modules is the absence of resistors in the non-working modules. There were instructions to take apart, obtain the resistors and solder them in...then they worked. No programming involved.

I remember the couple folks who took theirs out and added resistors. I'm not gonna try and take that chance. Nor will I fork over $500 for what amounts to less than $5 worth of resistors. That's steep! I'm sure some will try both. I'll leave mine unlit before either of those two options. Not that big a deal, anyway.

My repair invoice shows $185.23, including $119.00 for the two parts to fix the illumination. The rest is labor.

They did not replace the head unit, just the radio control knob panel and the HVAC control knob panel.

That's good to know, Chuck. If push comes to shove, that is far better than the $500. Hell, if they split it, I'd likely do it.

Wow. So they are pricey? Radio is quite expensive. What did you have replaced, Chuck?

They replaced both of the boards (radio control and HVAC control) listed above, but the prices they listed for parts are no where near these prices. Go figure.
