There are no airbags in the A-pillar on either side. Therefore, the handle should have no effect either way. The only air bags are dash/steering wheel and curtain on the B-pillar.

I just checked my factory trim piece and there is no airbag warning anywhere in it. If there were an airbag behind the trim, it would have to say so on trim piece.

My old trim piece before i got the handle had the piece that said air bag, took it off and the airbag is there.

Even the owner's manual states the air bags are in front (dash & steering wheel), side bolster (seat) and curtain (B-pillar). There may be some component behind the A-pillar trim that goes to the curtain airbags, but there is not an airbag in the A-pillars of these new trucks from all information and pictures I can find. If said truck does have one in that location, it's strange.

Dam, I guess I was wrong. The piece doesn't say airbag but there is an airbag back there. Unless that wrapped up white airbag looking bag is something else.

Just did mine this morning and it has an airbag.

I had the white bag looking thing also, but doubt it's an airbag. Can't find anything to document it. So we have same thing, just unsure what it is.

Does anyone know if there is a way to put a grab handle on the "B" pillar for the drivers side? My brother needs to be able to pull his self up and he likes to grab the one on the "A" pillar and the seat belt to get into my truck but he is looking to buy a new one and this is something that he needs. :jester:

So what is the white thing on this video?

It's part of the side curtain air bag. The white strap is the airbag tether.

EDIT, ok found this, here is a video of a 2014 Silverado CC getting crashed! (I cant figure out how to embed the video lol sorry!) Looks to me like the air bag should push down and come out of the top of the A pillar molding, just above where the bolts for the assist handle are.

The air bag should work just fine with the handle installed. Not to mention that the passenger side is configured exactly the same way from the factory!

(3:15 and 3:50 are the two most relevant moments if you prefer not to watch the entire video.)

I know not everyone's familiar with air bags, so just want to clear this up:

The driver's (or passenger's) handle WILL NOT interfere with the air bags operation. Air bags are controlled explosions and can easily punch through plastics. In the curtain bags case, they will literally curl back the handles plastic trim closest to window like it wasn't even there. Same thing with front air bags.. most are designed to literally punch a hole through dash materials.

Part of the air bag system (anchoring straps) are in the A-pillar. Make sure you don't cut them! ha

The purpose of the black clip on the driver's stock panel is to prevent it from becoming a dangerous projectile when the bags go off. On the ambulance, I've seen how bags can launch objects inside the car, so make sure you never hang/place anything inside the air bags' expansion path.

You can add handles as long as they are above/outside the side air bags' path. If you were to place inside path, the bag will get caught in an accident, meaning it won't fully deploy -or- it'll break off the added handle & turn it into a deadly projectile!
