Buy or wait?

Hi,

I am new here, so I have been reading a lot before making my first post. I'm looking very hard at purchasing a 2014 SLT Crew Cab 4x4. My local dealer had a pending order and modified it to make it the exact truck I want (black/black, heated/cooled seats, 3.42, trailer brake controller, SLT value plus package).

Like I said, I have been reading this forum quite a bit, in addition to multiple test drives. Seems like there are lots of complaints, and while I take everything with a grain of salt, I am definitely taking a long look at my options. After driving a F-150, I just have no interest due to the design.

My apologies for the long first post, but I wanted to offer up my thoughts. I welcome everyone's opinion. thanks!

I'm in a similar situation. I have 2008 that has been the best truck I ever owned. I love my truck, that is why it hasn't been so easy to jump.

I always bought because I wanted, not needed so I am trying to be smart this go around. From what everyone here says, the new '14 is the

best truck yet and a significant upgrade from a 900. With that said, it appears you're not too sold on your current F-150 so I say do it.

Iam in the same boat as you. been shopping for almost 2 months. This is what iv narrowed it down to.

Test drove a ram sport crew cab loved it except for the transmission. Couldn't do it cause of the rotary shifter. engine sounded good. had decent power but that knob threw me off.

I then test drove a f150 fx4 with the 6.2. The truck feels dated, it is nice but feels old. the power train is good and strong. Sounds great and likes to rev.

Just test drove a new 2014 Denali crew short box. The 6.2 is unreal strong but for some reason the hemi feels like it pulls harder. I was surprised that with TC off it'll burn the tires like unreal. the fit and finish of the Denali is unreal. The truck felt so good I ordered a Denali crew. Will add a 4 inch skyjacker and 33 inch toyos when it arrives.

@The Silverado: I was just referring to test driving an F-150. While I have owned an F-150 before ('05), I am currently in an '02 4Runner with just over 100k, and runs like a top. Would hate to get into a '14 and deal with constant trips to the dealer to fix little things. Will GM address any of these issues in '15? That's my big question! Thanks again!

First post! Excited to be here. I've had a 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab since new. She has 217k miles on her now and even though she leaks EVERY SINGLE FLUID (no joke) and not a single amentiy has worked in, well, forever, she still starts and gets me there reliably. If I try a couple of times to start....yes the fuel check valve is bad too. Anyway...I'm going to pull the trigger on an AT, pretty much fully loaded. SOOOO excited!! What's everyone's guess on the current incentives? As it's an AT, loaded, I have to order. Who knows if I'll actually get a sliding rear or not. I realize the incentives are there to move lot inventory, but it seems a tad short sighted on GM's part to not honor incentives on special orders. Oh well. I kinda hope that the current slump in sales continues for about 8 weeks and GM is inclined to continue or even increase the sales. Who knows! Hope to be one of the group soon!

I was under the assumption that you can use incentives on an ordered vehicle.... is that not correct?

I assumed you placed the order and then you get the current incentives when the truck is delivered...

I am contemplating placing an order also, as I can't seem to find what I want anywhere. I am eligible for employee pricing, and assumed I would get that when placing an order, and also any current incentives that are in place when the truck is finally delivered..... Is that not the case?

If you read the posts here you will get a distorted view of the troubles with these '14s. Guys rarely post how trouble free and fun they are to drive. My Silverado LZT is the nicest, quietest, vehicle I have ever owned. I've only had it three months but it has been flawless. I had to take it in for the "Fire" recall but my truck never caught fire. It only took 20 minutes for that and they replaced my rear window regulator too. It was working fine, but there was an upgrade, and they replaced it for free. That shows me they care about quality. The new regulator is just better and won't cause a problem in the future. The Bose stereo, parking assist, plush leather seats, and the whole MyLink system is just so cool. I'd drive this truck anywhere. It's really like a luxury car with a bed. Do what you want, it's your dough, and they ain't cheap, but I'm really glad I bought my truck. I'm very happy with it.

I LOVE my '14.. Sure the little issues are annoying, having to bring it to the dealer next week for the recall for ecm and recall on sliding rear window, but again, I LOVE this truck, it's just all that and more.. I have not felt this way about a vehicle before and I have bought brand new many times.

Well, you can do both. Buy now, then wait four weeks until they fix the problems under warranty.

The 2014 trucks are awesome. I got mine Jan 17th and have not regreted it for more than maybe 2 minutes so far (agonizing over my savings account balance) I know that right now you can get a good chunk off the MSRP and that may continue for a while. I would say that it would be a pretty safe bet that when warmer weather comes around that the new truck lots will be a bit more crowded and the dealerships may be a little less willing to wheel and deal.

Now if you have a lot of patience and self control the next best strategy may be to go pick out the exact truck you want right now and then mark exactly 3 years from now on your calender. At the three year mark go buy that exact truck used with low miles for around 45% to 50% off MSRP BAM.

Me I could not wait I just have no patience I guess....sigh. I totally agree with your assessemnt of the Ford Trucks and actually all other trucks currently on the market, they do not stand up to the look and feel of these 2014 GM trucks. IMO GM has knocked it out of the park this time around. I currently have approx 3k on my 2014 CC SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 20in wheels Irridium Metallic 12-11-13 build date I have had no problems with it so far, it even produces decent fuel mileage which is pretty amazing for a 5216lb beast that will really move when you stomp the go pedal. However my poor savings account has suffered terribly.

Why would you wait? Only a small percentage of people are having problems, and even if you do, GM will fix them. In the mean time you're driving around in an awesome truck instead of whatever you own now. I have a couple of minor problems, but I wouldn't wait if I had the ability to do it all over again. Go for it. You'll be super happy.

Any changes to the 2015's will be minor. They won't shut down and switch over to the 2015's like they did for the 2014's. A late 14 would probably not be any different than a early 15 as for as having issues worked out. If they find a problem with a part, software or whatever its going to be corrected as soon as they can. Not like starting a new a line up with a major model change.
