Which Engine Oil?

I went to my local parts store today and they were very limited in selection for the 0w-20 oil that our trucks use. All they had was Mobil1 "Increased Fuel Economy" in 0w20. What are you guys using? Anyone done their own oil change yet?

That's what I will be using! It's limited choices as the new engines requires a Dexos approved oil. That particular Mobil 1 is GM approved for use.

Was just wondering what oil is the best in the new 5.3 v8? This is my first post & so far I like the new crew cab that Chevrolet has got. Just hoping I don't have lots of problems with this being the first year model. Thanks for the info!

any 0w20 that conforms to the GM Dexos 1 certification will be good. After I get my 2 free dealership changes, I'll be using Amsoil.

Here is a list of dexos1 oils. You can use any of these.

There are some companies out that are not on the list but their oils meet the dexos1 specification, AMSOIL is one of them and so is Valvoline.

Obviously I don't have a new 2014 model but if I did I would be using AMSOIL of course.

Is 0w-20 or 5w-20 better?

Personal preference for the most part but in extreme cold 0w-20 gives better start up protection.

I would run 0w-20 with no worries.

Even in 100 degree summer heat?

Yep. No problems when you understand how oils/lubricants work

Is 0w-20 or 5w-20 better?

The manual says only to use 0W20 in the new 5.3 and 6.2. The only new motor that uses 5W30 is the 4.3.

Stick with the 0W20 and keep that extended warranty you bought in good standing.

Waiting to use up the rest of my free oil changes. I have a 5 gallon pale of Torco SR-1 0w20 at home that I use on the other cars in my household.

I had my truck in the dealership for safety recall bulletin and an oil change. I told them I would pay for the oil change as the DIC was not at 20%. The truck has 3,400 miles and I wanted the oil changed for the first time anyway. The dealer said I could use one of the "free" changes, as GM decided to drop the 20% requirement due to a lot of complaints. I didn't know about the change of policy (if it is true that is) but you are entitled to the free changes until used up (or mileage limit reach).
