Here's pictures of my project assembled. Hard rains here all day yesterday and I had no water, fogging, or condensation!

Not to highjack the thread but here is a quick write up on the Silverado lights for those who want to know. I will post my own thread this week with pictures

 

Once you have removed your headlights from your grille toss them in the oven for 8 minutes @ 220 to remove the chrome light trim. Place the lights on a baking sheet and make sure it doesn't touch the back or sides of the oven. Once the lights have baked for 8 minutes remove them using a towel as they will be hot. Using a screw drive, pop the tabs holding the chrome accent on and start pulling it off. It is 2 way taped and will need some force to remove.

 

Place your lights back in the oven for 15 minutes @ 220. Once they have baked remove them and using a screw driver start digging and prying around the lens to get under the old silicone. Once you have made your way around the light start at one end and keep digging until you get under the lens and can grab it with your fingers. When you can get your fingers under it start pulling to remove the lens.

 

With the lens removed, clean all old silicone out of the light for a cleaner install. Using a small screw drive pop the tabs off that hold your reflector on.

 

Clean off all finger prints with a towel (try to avoid them if possible). Shake your light upside down to remove anything that has fallen into the light

 

Apply a thick bead of silicone around the light housing and reinstall your lens. Add silicone where It needs some extra.

 

Cover your light with as clean rag and use 2 ratchet straps to hold your lens down tight. Allow the silicone to cure.

 

**Pay attention when buying silicone and make sure you're buying CLEAR outdoor and something that dries in 3-4 hours because it will likely take 4-5 hours to dry.

Baked my headlights this weekend. Took a lot longer than I thought it would. Sealed the crap out of them so hopefully no moisture. Installed LED switchbacks and Putco high and low beam bulbs. I think it looks a lot more meaner now.

This may not be the right place to post this, but I can't imagine that it is all that bad of a place to post it either, I am looking to see if anyone has found a clear style cover to replace the amber turn signal with in the Sierra headlights. I want to get rid of that big amber plastic but I don't want to leave it as a bare reflector dish, doesn't look too clean in my opinion. If there are no clear options yet, does anyone know how to clear the actual amber piece, like how to take the color out of it? I realize that this probably isn't really possible, but couldnt hurt to ask

Mike this is something I've been trying to achieve for a very long time however I don't have a spare amber to make a prototype. If someone who's removed their amber piece would like to ship me theits for R&D I would gladly repay them with a clear set if I'm successful!

Why do yours look extra dark compared to the others? Did you paint something else on the inside?

I must be blind because I dont see the four 10mm bolts underneath the truck that you are supposed to remove to get the grille out to even get the headlights out. SMH.

You need to remove the cover on top of the radiator as well as the plastic valance between the bumper and the body/grill.

taking my headlight apart now and got my new all terrain grille sitting in my room. should I reuse the sealant on the light and use butyl tape if so what brand?

 

leaning towards the butyl tape but just want to confirm with someone that knows if they are pretty much all the same?

      Its coolant disguised as oil.   TSB 20-NA-166 -  20-NA-166 1..3   "To inspect for this concern, add coolant dye to the system, run the engine through warm up, pressurize the cooling system after warming the engine to operating temperature (let the engine cool overnight) and inspect the suspect cylinder with a borescope for coolant dye evidence. At times it may be necessary to remove the head for inspection. If the head casting line is the concern, the intake port will be wet with a coolant oil mix"

      Can you sample the pooled liquid, enough to confirm it is oil?   ...That its not fuel or coolant.   Also, make sure combustion gases aren't entering the cooling system.   Simply put, either oil being pushed up past the rings (this really isn't possible), oil leaking past the head gasket, oil leaking past the valve, oil entering through the intake air path. If none of this is likely - it may not be oil.   What could be likely is the fuel injector leaking down. A puddle of gas would still smoke and rough idle. (Same cylinder has the same problem after injector replacement?)   What is the crank time first thing in the morning, when the puddle would be present? Does it seem like the high pressure fuel pump needs an extra second or two to rebuild the pressure that injector 8 may have let bleed off? Check the fuel pressure via a scanner prior to starting the engine.

      Good information!  I didn't know about the dementia aspect and asked for a general for my second knee. I'd heard that recovery room time is usually shorter with a general.   The anesthesiologist talked me out of it and I had the spinal.  Inconvenience and/or discomfort is a small price to pay for reduced risk!

      This is for those over 70 years of age contemplating joint replacement surgery involving general anesthesia. Even some 55 yrs. ago when I took my pharmacology class the dangers of developing dementia in the elderly that had general anesthesia were beginning to be recognized. Over the years there has been some refinement in the cautionary warnings, avoid general anesthesia if possible if you've had close to 10 priors, especially over the age of 70 and/or a family history of dementia. I'm not including the twilight anesthesia induced by propofol often used in cytoscopies or colonscopies. Seriously think about seeing a neurologist and undergo cognitive testing before proceeding if any of those criteria apply to you. Spinal anesthesia may be an option in some cases. I'm in the above camp and although I could use a new right knee, I get fidgety according to a prior orthopedic surgeon when the bone saw spools up or maybe it was the smell of saw blade meeting bone, anyhow I may have one general anesthesia left in me which I will pocket for now and I'm choosing mind over mobility, anyway where did I leave my damn cane!
