For non Bose it is required to pull the dash trim, for Bose it is not as the amp is directly attached to the sub.

Best upgrade i've done to my truck

Posted

So I am looking at the Kicker upgrade with an amplifier.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206PSIRE14/Kicker-VSS-PowerStage-System.html?tp=61674

I am concerned about this "processor features pre-set high-pass filters, EQs, and speaker time alignment"

Part of the reason I am interested in the kit is to add an amplifier, easily to my stock system, and then also install new door speakers. I am concerned they have a high pass filter since the paper speakers don't have a real tweeter.

Can a user adjust the filters, eq, etc on this Kicker DSP? So I can tune it for some decent speakers?

Thanks

Where is the cheapest/best place to buy this? I see it on ebay for $878 or amazon for $860.

So I already have the powerstage installed into my 2014 1500 crewcab and it sounds awesome! Does anyone know if they sell the additional amp by itself? And if so do you know the part number so that I can find it because I've had zero luck searching so far.

I installed the Kicker VSS Soundstage with the 32 bit digital signal processor/4 channel amp model #19303117

$850 shipped via Amazon

I also upgraded the front and rear door speakers.

The front doors got Kicker KS seires model #KSC693 which are 3 way 6x9 4ohm speakers.

The back doors got Kicker KS series model #KSC67 which are 2 way 6-3/4" 4ohm speakers

2 way 6-3/4s

$210 via crutchfield.

I am extremely happy with the upgrade!!! I highly recommend getting the complete Kicker VSS soundstage package. You can actually hear the dash speakers?

I could not find anyway of buying the amp/processor by its self but I would just contact Kicker and see if they would!

I'm revisiting this thread 8 months after I installed the Kicker system and DSP last April. I am blown away with how clean the front stage sounds at any volume level. The truck is an absolute joy to drive. I'm really happy with the quality of the sound and I highly recommend this to anyone interested in making their system sound great.

After reading your post, I've decided to upgrade my system. Have you thought about changing out the dash speakers?

Before installing everything I was definitely considering upgrading the dash speakers but everyone who has installed the complete kickers Vss powerstage package says the same thing. With the complete package you finally can hear the dash speakers. I was never able to really hear them before so I was going to install the kit and see what happened. I am very happy so far with the stock dash speakers right now. My coworker changed out his GMC Sierra door and dash speakers to really nice components with the tweeters in the dash. I personally did not like the sound with the tweeter that far back in the dash it felt like it was lost. The only speakers I am considering right now are the GM/AC Delco Bose speakers that are close to $90ea and will fit with no modification to the truck. All of the other aftermarket options I have found require modifications to fit because they are deeper with larger magnets & I personally am not going to cut up any of the truck as I will most likely get rid of it in a few years.

I got the Kicker VSS #19303117 with the Kicker KSC65 and KSC69's. I noticed that after the upgrade I had to turn the volume up quite a bit more to hear the fronts and the bass level down. I normally have to keep the volume at about 50% with windows up and 75-90% with windows down to hear at a decent level. Have you had a similar experience or did my authorized Kicker installer not hook it all up correctly? I have just been riding around thinking it was normal, but now second guessing it.

Thanks!

I have not had that problem at all! Hmm I wonder if they have everything hooked up right? Maybe check the fuse from the Digital processor/amp? My stereo is loud as heck and I'm a deaf drummer LOL

Well I found out that my issue was Apple.... Whether plugging in my iPhone 6+ or iPad Pro via USB or via Bluetooth I wasn't getting all the sound. When I put in a USB stick with my music/playlist export from iTunes, I got better volume. It was almost too loud when I put it up to half. ;) Heck, it's never too loud. lol Thanks!

    • I really appreciate the response.  I guess I was confused about torque angle vs torque angle yield.  The individual bolts don't have a warning on reuse but the part number for the LCA nuts does.   Regarding the purpose of the moog grease fittings on their bolts .. Guessing to reduce possibility of corrosion locking the cams or seizing to the bushing inserts.
    • The top speed is software limited, I don't think there's a way to change it without de-doing the whole truck. If you can get a CAN log per my above post we can try seeing if there's anything obvious going on. What happens when you plug the truck in to charge it, does it ever fully charge up or does it stay at low battery %?
    • The LCA bolts are NOT a one time use fastener.  GM does not have them called out as such at all.   They are torque plus degree, but not a one time use TTY.  Nowhere in the service manual does it call out for replacing the LCA bolts for being one time use.  The factory spec would apply to the Moog bolts as well.    I see two things different.  The Moog bolts are greaseable (which I see no point in) and they don't have one of the washers welded to the bolt like the factory bolts, so they can be used in all 4 positions.      Think about it.  The LCA bolts are now the alignment adjustment point, instead of the UCA bolts like the prior generation.  A bolt that is meant to be adjusted for alignment...would it make sense to make it a one time use component?  How would you get an alignment done in the first place?  You couldn't.       Also.  What TSB exactly?  There is no TSB that I see for 2019-2026 for over-torquing LCA bolts.  There was a PI, PIT5533C, but that covered 2014-2018 body trucks for re-torquing LCA mounting bolts.  But those trucks to a 2019-2026?  Not the same, so PIT5533C does not apply.
    • Nice looking setup!  Is this the kit you got?  If so 211 is a great deal!  https://accessories.chevrolet.com/product/trailering-camera-system-86584184   My TT came with a wireless rear camera but it only works on an app or a separate screen they sell so I've decide it's not worth the hassle since it keeps disconnecting and with wireless android auto it's a hassle trying to connect my phone to it.  So I've been thinking about adding the GM camera so it's integrated into the rest of the camera views.   I also found this one which seems to be a different PN & retail price that explicitly states the invisible trailer view https://www.shopchevyparts.com/chevrolet/2024/silverado-2500-hd/electronics/85825715-silverado-2500-trailer-camera-transparent-view-requires-trg-camera-provisions-p-92326971.html?sort=2a
