Anyone who has watched Top Gear for more than a few years knows that is huge, the only Corvette he hasn't outright trashed was the ZR1.

I'm not, the man is use to driving works of art more so then testing todays automobile's. Yes though I agree it says a lot that he thinks the newest version deserves this praise, i'll take his word for it too considering the variety of top end vehicle's he has tested over the years is more so then anyone else I can think of.

Clarkson has always talked shit in the past concerning just about every American vehicle known, especially the Corvette, so yes, this is high praise for a deserving machine.

It is mainly due to the interior apparently. I haven't seen the new corvette interior in person but apparently the fit and finish is amazing. Especially since the last gen was bad.. Straight plastic everywhere and the same steering wheel they put in a Malibu

Well when he walks to the back bumper and pushes it in and it flex's like a Tupper ware container his opinion was a valid one with previous gen vette's !

Not really. Clarkson's on-air comments are for entertainment value, and nothing more. It amazes me how much folks don't really understand that, with respect to Top Gear. It's not a show that's supposed to be taken seriously, whatsoever. Other than the Stig's lap times (and even those are questionable at times), nothing they do or say on TG should be taken seriously at all.

 

Clarkson loves Corvettes. He picks on them on-air because it generates controversy. And he's one of the kings of generating controversy. Once you understand that, you learn to take what he says on air with not a gain of salt, but the whole ocean full.

 

What he writes, on the other hand, is a different story. And he writes fairly consistently in favor of the Vette. He even owned a ZR1 for a short while, and absolutely loved it.

he also owned a Ford GT, as well as lots and LOTS of those Overpriced, Arrogancemobiles known as Mercedes Benz.

Benz is better than BMW at least. And I know you're no fan of Chrysler's time partnered with Daimler but despite being treated like crap I honestly think it worked out quite well for them. They've gotten a tremendous run on the Charger/Challenger/300 which is essentially a late 90s/early 2000s E-Class, being able to use Mercedes trannys has helped improve their rep for lousy automatics, the Grand Cherokee and Durango are excellent SUVs that share bones with the M-Class. And there are of course the rumors that the Viper and SLR share some DNA. Chrysler makes some good stuff now and given the lengthy development cycle a decent portion of it had to have been started while under the Germans.
