^ Are you serious?

As long as you use it once during the OS trial, the remote functionality will be good for 5 years.

Given the number of times I've had problems with the app... I would sure hate to have an emergency in the truck and hope their service wouldn't be having some kind of problem. It doesn't bode well for them to have app outages when their selling a safety service. They're selling a product, even if they give away the app for free. Just doesn't give me confidence.

Yes, that's how long it will work without a subscription, providing you use it once within your trial period.

I bought my 15 Silverado almost 2 weeks ago and the app worked great for a week. I got a call from onstar saying they had an account glitch and had to re enroll me but didn't give me the new account number till I called back because I couldn't log in. Now the app won't connect to the truck or the website. Called onstar back an they tried resetting the truck an had me delete the app an re download it. Still didn't work so they said a senior tech would have to look into it and will call me back in 2-3 days. It's been a week and still nothing and I also keep getting emails saying I need to set up my account ever 2 days.

I haven't had any problems with Onstar with the truck, online account or the app. The only time was when they were doing some kind of system update and I couldn't log into the online account.

5 years is cool without subscribing, but what are we gonna do after 5 years lol? Sign back up to reactivate it and then cancel subscription?

Yep, 5 years. I fought with Onstar for a month regarding the remote start not working in my app. Each time I called I had to repeat my problem with 1st level support only to get told they needed to escalate it to 2nd level support and I'd get a call with 3-5 days. Half the time never got a call back or if they did and I was busy at work and missed the call I'd have to start the whole process over again. Very frustrating. The last time I spoke with them I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told they were all in a meeting and one would call me back that day. 5 business days now and no call back. I finally spoke with my dealership service dept and was told my truck does not have the correct module for remote start to work in the app and they cant change it. Key fob works fine. I'm pretty bummed about this since its a brand new 2014.

did your truck come with factory installed remote or accessory add on?

Mine was dealer installed. I was told there are basically 3 variations. Trucks with factory installed remote start, trucks that are remote start ready from the factory (ones with the higher end mylink radios), then ones that are not. Mine being the 3rd. I have the 4" mylink radio screen. Onstar support never explained this to me. One person would say it didn't work in my truck, the next support person said it would work. I didn't know what to believe and they just transfered me around for weeks with no good explanation either way so it was frustrating.

This seems very odd. GM announced that the remote link app would be "standard" on all onstar equipped vehicles.

OnStar + key fob = remote link app ready

Is it just the remote start that won't work? Can you still unlock doors and such?

I feel for you. I love that app and use it all the time.

Sorry if I was unclear. All functions of the app work with my truck except the remote start option which is missing. My truck being an LT Z71 with a dealer installed remote start. The one thing that I would have used the app for the most. Bummer.

most vehicles already have the remote start module installed, but not activated...when you get the "kit", it consists of 2 new key fobs, and the technician has to program it on the GM system...

I received a call from OnStar yesterday. Apparently engineering has determined that the problem is with the hardware in my 2015 Silverado. I am to take the truck to the dealer so they can do some measuring and testing which they will forward to Chevrolet Technical Support. OnStar engineering has provided Chevrolet Technical with the information they have determined. Perhaps I am on the way to a resolution of this problem.

So did it take OnStar 2 weeks to call you back? After many weeks of frustrating calls to OnStar support and not getting anywhere they finally told me I needed to go to the dealership. Unfortunately for me my 2014 apparently ended up not being compatible for just the remote start function. Dealer even said they were not allowed by GM to swap in a new module that mine didn't have. Hopefully your dealership will get yours working.

Are you guys really expecting the app to be able to have functionality the truck doesn't otherwise have? The OS app never enabled remote start on vehicles without it going back to 2011 when the app came out.
