Speed governor?

I would imagine that at some point in the future, these stock speed limiters on vehicles will slow down even more. Simply due to lawsuits, litigation and people's lack of personal responsibility in this lawsuit happy world we now have. It may even get to a point where any speed above 80 or so is a felony punishable with jail time. Yeah, I know that's a stretch, but think of all the silly regulations that get tacked on to everything all the time.

With gps mapping already displaying most speed limits, maybe the next step will be sending you the ticket when the truck detects you are speeding, or adjusting the speed limiter to match the speed limit.

Big brother is watching.....

Get a Canadian one.

There set up primarily for kph, so when mph is selected it's good for 200 mph.

Like my step dad always told me. Just because the speedo says 120 that does not mean the vehicle will go that fast.

GM pickups have had this 'feature' for quite a few years.

Yes highly talked about topic. It is governed because your tires aren't rated for higher speeds.

I doubt its just tires. as my last ford didnt have a governor which was a 2011 and im sure tires on that were similar to what GM uses. Gm has put this cut out on their SUVs and trucks back to 2000 even 1998 I beleive.

i havent hit a governor on a vehicle since i was 20.

as an added bonus, there is no way in hell a governor has cost someone their life. do the damn speed limit. i have driven on plenty of roads out west including some with legal speed limits of 80 and higher, and there is no way you should be doing 98. i too live in texas, and drive to west texas pretty often. infact people in arizona are surprised to hear i20 has 80mph legal limits.

Currently, the only road with an 85 mph speed limit is a 41 mile portion of Texas State Highway 130 from the northern terminus of its concurrency with US-183 (30.075512°N 97.692387°W), southward to I-10 near Seguin(29.613349°N 97.876287°W).^[160]^[161]

Factoring in rounding (most countries round speed limits to the nearest 5 mph or 10 km/h), the 80 miles per hour (129 km/h) limit is approximately the same speed as the 130 km/h (81 mph) recommended speed on theAutobahn and the actual 130 km/h (81 mph) speed limit for freeway-class roads in thirteen European countries and the Australian Northern Territory.

As of September 2012, the only limits higher than the 85 miles per hour (137 km/h) limit are the 140 km/h (87 mph) limits of Poland, Bulgaria and Abu Dhabi,^[162] though some countries like Germany have roads without any posted maximum limit.^[163]

The autobahn is acutally pretty safe. I beleive they have less accidents but when they do happen its not pretty. Problem with having speed limits above the 80-85mpg mark is american roads and vehicles are not built for it.

The jury has spoken, lets have them all set for 76 MPH, one MPH over the speed limit should be enough to safely pass a semi on a two lane road if he is only going 65. You know no one would never dare to pull head on in your lane over the horizon. You could always hit your brakes and hope no one has pulled up tight to the semi waiting for his turn to pass. Then if we happen to find freeways with a higher posted speed we could have sensors on the on ramps and in our cars to let us run at that speed. I did notice last time I hit 86 MPH I lost a bumper, it looked like the front fenders were getting ready to go. All those other drivers that were passing me on I 10 just pass the Texas line, they must have been going at least 95, were doing great damage to the road. It got really tough to drive going around all those parts flying off the cars from them doing over 85. Don't even get me started on what happen to the road. LOL

Because when you change the speedo to Kilometers per hour the needle can go higher. 75 mph is equal to 120 km/h

why should you need to pass someone that is going 75mph? your excuses for governor arent really valid. its just your opinion that you dont like it, and thats fine. there just is no valid reason for a vehicle to need to go faster than 98. in fact my 2001 ford had a 95mph governor and i hit it often on I95 in miami trying to stay out of peoples way. that is the fastest traffic flow i've ever been on. that and the jersey turnpike. but i digress, you do not need to go faster than 98 and even if the governor were 90, it wouldn't bother 95% of the public.

the few ruin it for the majority. the idea that safety devices harm us needs to be old thinking. seat belts save lives, but the same people think they should be optional and not forced on you by government agencies. sorta like the same people that want to complain when they eat something that makes them sick, but hate government agencies like FDA. closed minded thinking. look at a bigger picture here than just "i want to go fast cause i want to".
