Speed governor?

Why are people getting their panties in a twist about this? the trucks have had speed governors for years. It's not something new. No need to be sending a 5000 lb hunk of steel and aluminum across the ground at more than 100mph, ON PUBLIC ROADS.

 

If you want it to be higher, get a tune, and then only excessively speed at the drag strip.

Well its simple, I want to make the choice. Put a sticker on the dash not to exceed 100 MPH unless you get Z rated tires. As far as weight, there is quite a few cars out there that are just as heavy as these trucks that don't have the speed limiter. People who don't live in the western half of the U.S cant imagine that 110 or so in a passing event would be normal.

You can make your own choice. You could have chosen to not buy a truck with a governed speed or you can chose to alter the programming. You just can't restrict the choice of a company to limit the speed of their product. They like to make their own choices too. Fair for one, fair for the other. It's a good pattern.

 

If you were making trucks or toothpicks or whatever, you'd want to choose how you made them. If you saw a trend of lawsuits against you, you'd alter your product to protect yourself.

You have the choice to tune your vehicle to remove the limiter. Which then in turn transfers the liability to yourself instead of GM. They put the limiters on there to protect the company from the people who would sue them if they had an accident because they were going 110mph on P rated tires caused by a blowout, grenaded rear end, exploding a drive shaft, etc. Even if there was a sticker on the dash that said do not exceed 100mph.

 

Because there is probably a lawyer out there that would be able to find the loop hole that says "well there was nothing stopping them from going that fast, so they assumed the vehicle was capable of those speeds."

 

Not trying to argue, I understand what you are saying and I agree, but you DO have the choice to remove the limiter.

I know its sad, that's the world we live in. I do always removed, its saved my life a few times. You would have to travel some of the two lanes of the west to understand, one size doesn't fit all.

I've been on the stretches of highway with a speed limit of 75mph out west. I know exactly what you are talking about. Hell, I've bounced off the speed limiter passing trucks on the highway here in Chicago. Can totally relate.

Try passing a semi on a high speed two lane, your just about there and some blue hair just ahead pulls in your path, as you pull back in your lane you notice your doing 115 MPH and thinking Im sure glad I removed that speed limiter. I know what people are thinking, but the semi was doing 65 in a 75, and I had a clear road I didn't see that driveway for the trees and old blue hair didn't look.

I guess you didn't read, on a two lane you don't waste time passing, I wasn't going that fast till blue hair pulled out. These trucks accelerate pretty fast on E85 with a tune. For the record I haven't had a ticket in twenty years, two accidents in forty, people running red lights. How about you, your honor?

I sometimes start wondering why they allow vehicles that can travel 130+ MPH to be "street legal" in a country that has speed limits and for which I know of no speed limit being over 80 or 85MPH? We get all bent out of shape at cops who engage in high speed persuits in dangerous areas yet we want to be able to have the "choice" of being able to drive as fast as we want when we want, consequences be damned. I don't know. I try not to worry about this stuff anymore. For all practical purposes, 98 MPH is more than enough for a truck owners needs.

I would imagine that at some point in the future, these stock speed limiters on vehicles will slow down even more. Simply due to lawsuits, litigation and people's lack of personal responsibility in this lawsuit happy world we now have. It may even get to a point where any speed above 80 or so is a felony punishable with jail time. Yeah, I know that's a stretch, but think of all the silly regulations that get tacked on to everything all the time.

98 has to be the lowest top speed for any 2014 car/ van/ light truck

 

 

Pretty much all trucks are within 10 mph of this, why is there an issue? Say Ford or Ram cuts off at 110, who cares? Someone who uses that to brag on their brand is a toolbag.
