Hey guys just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?I know they have a recall for earlier models but ours is a 2014.It has happened 3 times in about 2 weeks. The wife called me 2 times when I was at work and said I can't turn the key in the truck to start it.I said well try turning the wheel to the left and right while trying to turn the key and she said it was but it finally worked. Then it happened to me the truck was in the driveway and I got in it to go to the store and I could not turn the key forward and had to put quite a bit of pressure left and right while trying to turn the key to get it to unlock and start the truck. We have had the truck for about 4 months now and just in the lasrt couple of weeks this has happened 3 times gonna make a appointment at the dealer to see if there is something wrong.Hope just a quick fix because we really like this truck.

I've had similar but usually wiggling the steering wheel and applying a little more pressure to the switch gets it going.

I do have a number of keys plus the fob hanging off the switch.

I wish GM had gone the Mopar route and had a pushbutton that worked as long as you had your key in the pocket.

it is the steering wheel causing the issue. Mine does it daily, but I am the cause of it. I grab the wheel at times on the way out of the truck and it turns a bit then locks. if it is locked you cant get the key to turn over unless you pull the steering wheel to release the pressure on the key cylinder.

I'm assuming its the steering wheel lock. I've had several vehicles of all makes do this.

The new recall is for a certain batch of ignitions that are hard to turn to any position when its hot and can end up stuck in the "start" position.

Yep...I posted this in"key won't go in". Had to take key out of ignition, start with remote, insert key ....and it magically turns with no effort.

Told dealer, they think it's a chip problem and to bring it in when it happens so they can see it themselves.???

Let us know how you make out.

Ps...the young fellow at the greeting bay said there is a place under the columb to insert something that will release the wheel?

Thanks Jim

I can't find it now, but I recall on some early build 2014's there was an issue with keys / locks where they replaced some lock cylinders and keys because the key would not go in all of the way so it would not turn enough to turn on. Owners could move the steering wheel to relieve the pressure, but still would not start.

I may not be remembering it correctly...owners had to have their trucks towed to dealer...in any event it is a dealer problem.

Recall for ignition binding is for some (92,000 or so) 2011-2013 full size suv and pu.

My 2011 silverado did the same thing.

Hi beerguy214,

I understand that you have a concern with the ignition in your truck. I’m so sorry for this inconvenience and I can also certainly understand how frustrating this matter must be. I‘m unable to provide technical advice, but I’d be happy to look further into this concern for you. Feel free to send me a private message in regard to this thread if help is needed. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I noticed when I first try to start my truck, I can let go the key before it actually starts running. It will continue to start without my hand on the key. Is that normal?

Yes.

All the key does is send message to the computer that you would like it to start. Bump the key and the computer does the rest.

Thanks. Do you think it hurts anything by letting go of the key before it actual starts?
