Ive said it all along the shifting is terrible in this truck especially when towing. I think people that dont notice it, dont truly understand whats going on with their truck.

x2 the Blackbear tune I got modified the tcm and greatly improved shifting throughout.

I don't find my shifts necessarily rough.

I wonder if this will improve the transmission trying to get into 6th asap all the time?

I don't think the complaints have been with rough shifting, they are over the lazy TCM programming, and as you explain, trying to get into 6th gear all the time. From the original post, it seemed to have addressed that issue. Definitely something to keep your eye on.

has anyone else had any luck smooth talking their service guy to get in on this transmission "beta" test? If they are wanting user feedback they need to have users!

sounds like we have to play the waiting game again, and as dissappointed Im in GM , I can wait.

Im super hopeful .....

Cant wait... my trucks 2 to 3 shift is terrible sometimes... under about 20-30 percent throttle sometimes it seems like it neutrals out.... sucks on hills hits 3rd gear pretty rough. Extremely inconstant... some days I love driving it, others I hate it.

Mine is like most are saying. Sometimes it shifts ok. Does seem like it tries to get to 6th way too quick. Sometimes it seem to get lost as to what gear it needs to be in. Some shifts are hard then a mile or so later you can't even feel when it shifts. With only 3800 miles & owning the truck over a year now I haven't towed anything with it yet & it makes me wonder how the transmission will react to 5 or 6000 pounds behind it.

I can say with my 5k boat and in tow haul mode it is much better. It seems to stay in gear longer an not rush to 6th as fast as it can. The downshifts seem rougher though because it does it at a higher RPM.

My 2011 6.2 6-speed was amazing, my 2014 5.3 is horrendous. I'm wondering how there can be such a disparity from one truck to another. I've always wondered if the guys who say that their 2014's shift great were glossing over the poor shifting, they aren't in tune with their trucks as much as I am, or if their trucks were somehow tuned differently from the factory. I'm guessing they're tuned differently, or have different software, because there's no way anyone could drive my truck and think it's normal.

I've always wanted to visit Montana!

Add me to 6.2 with issues...I couldn't have said it better!

Am I the only one that has a "christmas morning" feeling when reading the first post?

  • I feel like a dick posting this prematurely! All I can say is I pray this gets out globally asap. Drove my truck on interstate, highway, and in town today and I just cannot get over how much better the transmission is, and why it took gm this long to get it configured. My truck is a blast now! Shifts are flawless, no laziness, no lagging, gas mileage to me doesn't seem any different at all, definately not worse but I hesitate to say much better, but I have been gassing it more as it is so much more fun. The truck seems to be so much more responsive and the gears are never lugging or downshifting early, but rather hold longer, climb faster, and runs just all around SOOOOO much better. My service advisor isn't yoru average service guy and has been building race motors etc for years, and I made it very clear he needs to let gm know how happy I am with the new setup. The truck is night and day different, feels like a hotrod, or around town feels smooth, yet jumps gears when I want without harshness or confusion as it used to. My truck always wanted to shift down immediately before, now if I give it a little gas it holds and climbs!

Here is hoping everyone can get this sooner than later.

I have to add, that I don't know what else was reprogrammed, but when my truck on the interstate or highway goes into 6th, it doesn't feel like it is lagging, holds so much better. I would compare this to a very strong tune. I cannot rave enough. I wish I would have taken a stock video before and a video after. Maybe tommorow or the next day if it warms up I will take a video for everyone to see the shift point difference. I don't ever have to be wot for the shift points just to be right.

I am not trying to get everyone bummed, but rather give hope that this is the fix that we have all been waiting for and what this truck should be. I knew the potential was there with gm, but now it seems that they have it figured out but i am sure they are being careful before just randomly throwing this out.

I don't think it will hurt for people to ask about it, bring up the clunky transmission programming and keep on the dealers to push this. Same as with the crappy heated seats that my dealer has replaced both on, the more people that bring it up, the more gm will be forced to look at it.

Here is hoping people, I just can't believe gm won't put this out. Peace out for the night, and hoping all of you can get this sooner than later.

I have the same setup, 5.3 and 3.42's. I don't mind the shifting but I would like the truck even more if it was more responsive! In for TSB number and calling my dealer tomorrow in hope that they know something or have something.
