Paint Chip on Bumper!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Brand new AT only 200 miles on it and i have a chip in the bumper that's past the primer. I just don't know what to say. Not sure touching this up will keep it from peeling further. Is there any hope GM will fix this? I know that's probably a stupid question but I had to ask.

Yes. I was planning on that. Doesn't help the situation now as I can't apply it until its repainted.

You can have the dealer look at it. Some people have had success with the dealer repainting their bumper but it seems like its hit or miss. First thing I did with my AT was get an XPEL self healing clear bra put on my truck the week I bought it.

It won't hurt to ask them. I once had a bumper on a Buick repainted under warranty.

Appreciate the info. I know the salesman so that might hurt me in getting it fixed. I sent him the pic and he's looking into it. What sucks is I took a 2 lane road to my destination about 80 miles away to avoid the interstate so I could avoid this until I got a clear bra put on.

You guys recommend DIY kit like the link above or pay someone. If I had to have it done what should I expect to pay?

Ya it's hit or miss on if the dealer will warranty it. I know one of the things I was told is that Warranty will not cover things that's normal wear and tear and most dealers will say that's normal wear. You're not the only one, seems like most everybody that has a factory painted bumper has had a problem with chips, at least the ones that haven't done anything to protect it.

I'm glad I have chrome bumpers, and I actually plan on getting them black chromed so they're black while having the finish and durability of chrome.

That should definitely be a repaint. It's obvious by the way that paint is peeling off smoothly that it was not bonded to the primer correctly.

OP, this should not cost you a dime, dealer should take care of it for you....Good Luck

I had my Xpel done for $1000. That included bumper, upper bumper, grille surround, headlights, 16" on hood and fenders, A-pillars, and about 14" on the roof.

I know there's a bulletin out for the bottom of doors. Not sure if it includes other parts though. Mine is at the dealer getting re-painted right now.

I would highly recommend some sort of clear bra. I wish would have done that on my Sierra when it was new. Now my bumper looks like I got shot with a 12 gauge!
