For a 70K truck, they dont have the plastic plate on the backside of the front seats. I like those so the kiddos dont ruin the leather when the kick the seats or me scratching the seat putting oblong objects in the back.

You're right on the competition piece, the Expedition EL is pretty much the only other thing out there.

I hardly ever see those on the road, but may I'm just not looking.

I'm curious to see what he ends up doing. I think its almost a spite situation for him now, not that he couldn't afford one. One thing GM doesn't have is competition in the market on those full size SUVs. There isn't much like a Suburban or Yukon XL out there.

Before the change over to the 2015 design, GM had 72 or 76% market share of large SUV's built. Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon's, Escalade etc. I really thought they were going to throw all that away when the new pricing came out. Not sure what the current market share is for them. But they are selling a ton of them.

Well, as stated before, GM dominates the full size SUV market simply because no one else is a player.

Lincoln made a slight comeback with the redesigned 2015 Navigator, but it's still nowhere near as luxurious as a Yukon Denali or an Escalade - but it is cheaper.

GM has more modern offerings in the SUV market than Ford - the only other player - does. The Expedition has its bells and whistles updated, but the vehicle itself is still the same as it was years ago. Dodge doesn't play in that segment. And even German stuff isn't quite full size, except perhaps the Mercedes GL, but even then, you're looking at a smaller SUV that costs thousands more than an Escalade.

A fully loaded Cadillac will run you ~$95,000, while a fully loaded GL will cost you upwards of $115,000.

With no real competition, GM thrives. Sadly for them though, this isn't the case in the truck market.

70k...so what?

That's what they're asking for a higher trim level Chevy:

You add the 6.2L (yes... it comes only with the 5.3L ...) and a stainless steel Bierdosenhalter (beer can holder) and you're well beyond 70k's.

Most I could build the Denali 1500 (with 6.2L) for was $58k - 3.25k rebate = $~55k without piling on every accessory in the catalog.

I built a 3500 Denali with all the goodies and didn't make it to 70k.

I'm not saying the price is off, because it will sell, Ford isn't stupid.

But it's way above the competition.

it took a lot of money down and great credit. it is pretty awesome. can't wrap my head around 1500+ mortgage. just not worth it to me.

Having a nice home and property are not worth $1500+ a month? It is for me, I wish my mortgage was only $1500 a month...

My first choice was to get a new 2015 Tahoe or Yukon but as stated they are just too much this time around. I bought my 07 Tahoe LT which I still own in Febuary of 07 for $38k but this time around that same LT is about 50-55k which is too much for me. So I went with a 2015 Sierra SLT for $38k instead. Dont get me wrong the new Limited Ford is nice but for 70 grand Id rather buy an Escalade or Yukon Denali.

I really have a hard time to wrap my head around it that someone would spend that kind of money on a 1/2 ton truck for himself.

Regardless how loaded the truck is.

Pimps drive an Escalade, low life drug dealers a Chrysler 300M and the rich man's daughter a BMW convertible.

What about the rich man's son? Here we go. Ford's found the niche. A nice high school graduation gift.

I mean you have to beat the class mates H3 somehow...

Different strokes different folks. I have a very nice place imo. Not over the top but don't need or want over the top. Rather save some money or spend it enjoying life. House broke is no fun, same as buying a high country when all you need is maybe a LT. I live comfortable. Just crazy to me to spend that much monthly. I rented for a bit longer and saved a larger down pmt to lower my expenses and still live in a nice place.

Very similar to the first couple sentences in the post above. Just housing instead of trucks.

Now back on topic again....

It's all relative to your available monetary resources. What's comfortable for one might be unmanageable for another.

I agree with that but still retain my opinion. If i made $50k, $100k, or $300k a year i still would not want a mortgage that high or a $70k ford!!! Rather save up the money and continue with the least amount of out of pocket expense/month.

My perspectives changed with living experiences, age, more income and savings. I started out working in a machine shop, standing on a dirt floor. I worked shops for about 18 years, progressively getting better jobs and income. Still, it was a modest income. I was going to college at night and finally landed a engineering classification job at a major aerospace company in my 30's. I've stuck with that company and progressed thru the engineering ranks. I'm close to retirement age. My income is high, my savings is excellent. My wife's portfolio is better. I look at these high end trucks and other toys a bit differently than I did even 5 years ago.

Depends on location too. In my area, you can't rent a 1 bedroom apartment for less than $800/month. For $1,100/month, you can own a 1400 sf rancher in a mediocre school district.
