Goodbye Chevy

I'm sure I've posted the story before but I'll tell it here again since it's worth telling. [emoji38]

Back when I had my 2003 Silverado (so sometime between 2004-08) I was coming back from a vacation in Vermont with my brother, cruising down the mostly empty interstate in the right lane. Dude in a Ram comes up pretty quickly on my bumper then pulls along side. His wife/girlfriend/whatever puts her window down, leans out real far (this at at like 70 mind you) holding a hat with the Dodge logo, points to it, gives a thumbs up, then points to me, then gives the finger. Truck took off.

Ever since then, that story about summarizes my opinion of most Ram owners. [emoji38]

I thoroughly enjoyed that story Mike lol

Coworkers that own rams are the same way, not sure why the mentality is that way. I silenced them with the mileage I am getting in my 6.2L and they don't even have to ask about the power. I don't think Rams are due for a redesign for another year, 2017 MY.

The 3.0L diesel seems to be their focus, though I have seen maybe 2 around my small town of 6000 people, and loads of 5.7 powered rams. Love their commericals,"In a recent motor trend article comparing ram to F150 and Silverado, blah blah blah". Article is now 6 months old. I hate GMs commericals as well, stop putting pot shots at other company's in the commercials and focus on real life data, like pushrod V8s getting better mileage than newer VVT V8s.

In seriousness I surfed ram and ford forums prior to these ones and I found out Ram forums had the the most widespread (as in, a variety of different issues ranging from electronics, fuel, transmission, emissions with the 3.0L,etc) problem threads. I recently read about some of their own 8 speed issues like lurking forward at stops and clunky shifting. A coworker just bought a brand new ram, I'll be able to somewhat compare to him but I have 9000km on mine already, but I am getting better mileage in my 6.2 than his 5.7, him and the other guys that own Rams at work seemed ecstatic about getting 18+ MPG.

From Lake Louise, AB to Jasper, AB (Fair amount of hills and approx 231KM), I averaged 30.9 MPG (7.6L/100KM) and was doing between 95-100KM/h the whole way. I would say that is pretty damn good mileage.

Coming back I let my wife drive and she gets a little giddy with all the power and was passing people, so we only got 27.6 MPG (8.5L/100KM). Obviously it would have been a bit lower hand calculated but regardless it was still great mileage.

Edited. Crewcab shortbed with 5.3L and 3.42 rear end. No modifications.

Pretty much to a T. I even rode with a guy (while on a trip in BC where him and his wife live and I was too cheap to get a rental car) who is quite a ram fanatic, tried talking me out of my new sierra and made up issues that don't even pop up around these forums. He's dragged, if you would even call it that, minivans, small cars, and small trucks at red lights if that says anything, while revving the piss out of his engine prior to said drag race. I should take a picture of his billboard of a back window...not a space not filled on it. Part brand names, slogans, etc.

Peace River to Edmonton, about 550km, I averaged 9.2L in my 6.2L, and Edmonton is higher elevation and Highway 43 is a lot of rolling hills.

I will admit before I decided on the Jeep and was cross-shopping the three and realized I liked the Ram the most my first thought was that'd I'd then have to associate with Ram owners.

Soooooooooooooo true.

Ram owners seem to be the most arrogant, youngest, and immature out there. Did not want to have to associate with them. Why is it they feel the need to put huge stickers on their trucks that say "hemi" or "cummins" or "mopar" and stuff? Also, I LOL everytime I see one with the trailer mirrors flipped up and no trailer... I actually said to one guy "Damn that's a big ghost trailer you got there!" He got beet red and drove off hahahahaha.

Offer him some LAVA soap and some anti-perspirant deodorant. Sounds like the kind of guy who could really use it!

A few friends and I had a group text going for a while for the invisible trailer pullers. I had one without a tailgate once so that was probably an invisible gooseneck or 5th wheel.

Was just going to say the same thing. The recall for air bags would not seem to be a big deal in terms of resale(once fixed or updated), but the buy back should send shock waves for new on lot sales.

Increased throttle response plus defective steering turns out badly:

I kid, I kid.

That has brightened my morning, absolutely funny stuff! When fools act like they own a race car. ?

With GM's wonderful transmission tuning, clunking, hesitation, and confusion, I'm pretty sure this statement is reciprocal...

A Black Bear tune would fix ALL that...ask me how I know :D .

I'm glad the OP paid the price he wanted to pay.

I'm sure Fiat can use the money to make more 500s.

I saw on the news last night that Fiat-Chrysler was being forced to buy back several million vehicles due to safety issues. So maybe if he doesn't like it he can just take it back :( .

Never really got hurt in trade in value by buying a low end Chevy or GMC. Satisfied with the standard equipment.

I could see someone losing their shirt however, by trading in one with all the bells and whistles.

..not a single issue after 6 months. Thing drives/performs flawlessly.

Sounds like you're talking about my truck :chevrolet: .

Haha! Mine too! Perfect after a year and a half.... Well over a million of these K2 trucks sold in '14 and '15 and I've never heard a complaint outside of this forum.

And I know a lot of people who own these trucks.:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

...How?

They have a higher trade in value. Yeah, they cost more, but the difference is negligible... low end = less expensive, worth less on trade. high end = more expensive, worth more on trade.

Loaded trucks hold their value. They're highly desirable. Buy a 2 year old loaded LTZ for the same price as a brand new LT1 or LT2.
