Well if you read further, 60% of these trucks have already been fixed and it only pertains to Chrysler Trucks/Suv's made from 2008-2012. At least FCA is doing the right thing by offering a buy-back. Dont think really it will impact new sales.

There were constant articles over the past year where FCA was not willing to issue recalls for various things among the entire family of brands, not just Ram trucks. Meanwhile GM was getting bashed for issuing recalls for everything. Heck, GM issued a recall for Hummers in the last couple of weeks. Would have thought liability would have ended on those. But some of the jeeps that I have read elsewhere listed go back to the 90's? How far back can regulators go back on a company anyway?

All that aside. It makes one wonder if the gubermint is shaking down co's for money. Once they got a taste of the $35 million from Toyota a couple years back, they seem to be more aggressive.

FCA’s buyback list

NHTSA’s consent agreement with Fiat Chrysler requires the automaker to offer to buy back the following models that are under recall:

278,229 vehicles recalled on February 6, 2013 because of a defect that may cause the axle to lock:

■ 2009 model year Chrysler Aspen

■ 2009 model year Dodge Durango

■ 2009-2012 model years Dodge Ram 1500

■ 2009-2011 model years Dodge Dakota

36,710 vehicles recalled on November 6, 2013 because of a defect that may cause the driver to lose steering power and crash:

■ 2008-2012 model years Dodge Ram 4500

■ 2008-2012 model years Dodge Ram 5500

265,057 vehicles recalled on November 6, 2013, to repair and replace steering linkages that may cause the driver to lose steering power and crash:

■ 2008 model year Dodge Ram 1500

■ 2008-2012 model years Dodge Ram 2500

■ 2008-2012 model years Dodge Ram 3500

Seriously? My transmission has been perfectly smooth and responsive. No idea where those adjectives came from. Dodge is NOTORIOUS for shitty transmissions. Have they finally fixed them? Dunno, but I ain't buying one to find out. I like Dodge trucks, especially the interior. But the exterior is dated (looked the same since 2009) and you see them EVERYWHERE. I still rarely see new GM trucks, there's Dodges everywhere though. Why? They're cheap. I don't buy cheap vehicles. You get what you pay for. Not to mention, Dodge owners think the 5.7 Hemi is a gift from God himself and think it's the fastest thing on the planet. Yet, cry whenever the 6.2 GM smokes them.

Nothing really against Dodge (Ford, that's another story) but anyone that tries to deny they are ridden with tranny problems is only fooling themselves. They seriously need a re-design badly, and something other than "The legendary 5.7 HEMI" as a marketing point.

Coworkers that own rams are the same way, not sure why the mentality is that way. I silenced them with the mileage I am getting in my 6.2L and they don't even have to ask about the power. I don't think Rams are due for a redesign for another year, 2017 MY.

The 3.0L diesel seems to be their focus, though I have seen maybe 2 around my small town of 6000 people, and loads of 5.7 powered rams. Love their commericals,"In a recent motor trend article comparing ram to F150 and Silverado, blah blah blah". Article is now 6 months old. I hate GMs commericals as well, stop putting pot shots at other company's in the commercials and focus on real life data, like pushrod V8s getting better mileage than newer VVT V8s.

In seriousness I surfed ram and ford forums prior to these ones and I found out Ram forums had the the most widespread (as in, a variety of different issues ranging from electronics, fuel, transmission, emissions with the 3.0L,etc) problem threads. I recently read about some of their own 8 speed issues like lurking forward at stops and clunky shifting. A coworker just bought a brand new ram, I'll be able to somewhat compare to him but I have 9000km on mine already, but I am getting better mileage in my 6.2 than his 5.7, him and the other guys that own Rams at work seemed ecstatic about getting 18+ MPG.

Yeah, I don't understand the attraction of truck buyers to Dodge.

When you talk about bad transmissions I automatically think of Dodge Ram!

The body style is outdated.

They get 1990's fuel economy.

And the resale value is the lowest of any truck.

I just don't get it.

PS.... Let me say something positive. They look really cool lifted.

Scoops in the hood, dual exhaust, the dreaded HEMI, aggressive shark-like-face, the sound of "I'm driving a RAM" attracts a lot of young folks.

F150, Sierra and Silverado look more conservative compared to the RAM.

And as we know the chick is attracted to the rooster with the most colorful plumage.

I will admit before I decided on the Jeep and was cross-shopping the three and realized I liked the Ram the most my first thought was that'd I'd then have to associate with Ram owners.

The only Ram owners that are annoying are the younger ones with a Cummins that put a tune in it to roll coal and thinks rolling coal is bad ass. I don't even mind stacks on any diesel pickup, just don't tune it to roll coal since it does nothing for performance lol. I know some diesels will roll coal, but only when you WOT it, the diesel pickup owners that roll coal want it to do that even under a little throttle.

I have been looking at 15 2500's. The 6.4 is a interesting motor.

Lets hear your thoughts.

True, in the past dodge transmissions were junk. But the new ZF 8 speeds they are using are a lot better.

Body style is due for a refresh, but I dont think its totally outdated.

1990s fuel economy? My Dad's 2014 Ram Hemi gets 17-18mpg mixed driving. Seen upwards of 22 on the highway as well. i think they are on par with the other trucks on the market.

Wow that buy back is going to hurt them big time. Maybe I am just getting older and just watching the news more but it seems these recalls are getting out of hand.

So, I'm a life long GM guy as well. Can't believe I'm considering another brand, but you may have given me hope. Is the 6.2 definitely differnet in its throttle response. I seriously would pay the extra cash just to get the throttle back where it used to be. This drives me crazy. I test drove a 5.0L V8 F150 and it drove like a dream. It responded to my foot like my 2008 sierra does. Of course the f150 was a smoother shifter as is the new sierrra and silverados with the 6sp, but I thought the 6.2 had the same throttle response issue?

Tip in throttle could be a little improved sure, but for the most part I find it is very responsive. Especially when the rpms start to climb, this engine is just begging for throttle. This varies from person to person though. It's the satisfaction to each persons want. I'm very pleased! Like I said in my earlier post it was so much better than the EB. Overall this truck is a blast to drive and 16 months of owning it, no trips to the dealer.

Sorry to break it to you but..... If you didn't have the money for a crew cab with the options you wanted, you didn't have the money for a double cab either.

Or maybe he couldn't justify the extra cost if not a necessity such as I did. It would have been an extra $3500 and for me that was a definite no as I didn't need the extra room. DC is plenty for my needs! More bang for my buck I like to think!

The "I am driving the 3rd place in pickup rankings-pickup" sound? :)

True... chicks dig it.

(And, if what you're looking for is badass.)

I'm sure I've posted the story before but I'll tell it here again since it's worth telling.

Back when I had my 2003 Silverado (so sometime between 2004-08) I was coming back from a vacation in Vermont with my brother, cruising down the mostly empty interstate in the right lane. Dude in a Ram comes up pretty quickly on my bumper then pulls along side. His wife/girlfriend/whatever puts her window down, leans out real far (this at at like 70 mind you) holding a hat with the Dodge logo, points to it, gives a thumbs up, then points to me, then gives the finger. Truck took off.

Ever since then, that story about summarizes my opinion of most Ram owners.
