You're probably right Rawyzf. I could have started the thread more tactfully. Im just extremely frustrated with the whole situation. The rental car is the worst part and then getting several different answers from the service dept. First I was told there was a service bulletin on the fuel pump and that was the problem then told a day later that the computer crashed and had to be replaced. I have no idea about either one. I tried checking around online to see if others had this issue or if it was common (which led me to here) and couldn't find anything similar to what I was being told. Just very frustrating

 

I'd be frusterated too, I understand. We all act differently. I would take your frustration out on your dealership though. Most people on brand specific forums are going to back the brand, and I know for a fact that a first post rant will get you no where quickly. ;).

Every car manufacturer will have issues.

 

I'm a Chevy guy and sure there's things I believe could be improved with Chevy.

 

At the end of the day if you believe you made a mistake because you ran into a computer issue, I invite you to consider this

 

Open up the hood on a Chevy truck

 

Look at the engine

 

Count the spark plugs

 

Look for the water pump

 

You can see these and if mechanically inclined still change them yourself with normal hand tools.

 

Try doing that with a ford.

 

I guess what I'm saying is Chevy updates but keeps it simple.

 

Now imagine all the potential issues other trucks are prone to with more stuff running of the computer.....

 

 

Hope this makes sense.....

 

Just a quick thought.

As for the issue with the truck.... it's a mass produced item.... and most the time any issues will pop up very quickly... just like a new computer... it's either good or not..

 

Defects pop up quickly, and are fixed. Much later, stuff wears out. The peak of reliability is around the 2nd and 3rd years.

 

This is why the bumper-to-bumper warranty is 3 years. They have to fix almost as much stuff with a 1-year warranty (because the defects will pop up in that first year), and yet nearly nothing on a well-built vehicle will wear out in 3 years.

Regardless of the rant and the way Golfnem went about it, $74k for a truck and it is shit after 10 days? Yeah I myself would be extremely pissed off !

True, but there isn't a whole lot we can do here.......he needs to focus his attention to the dealership he purchased it from.

I think you're a little over board here. He has a problem, it's getting fixed. He's not happy he has a problem and he's not happy with his rental.

I agree with both replies, I was just stating from an opinion of 'if I were in the other persons shoes' I would definitely be frustrated. Especially after spending that money, and would also vent on a forum where most others have a GM product. Other people that may have had the same problems or a similar frustration could voice an opinion, and it most of the time makes the situation a little easier when more than one can vent, and agree on your own frustration lol.

It was obvious that he purchased a Monday truck.

You never buy anything made on a Monday or a Friday because Monday's workers are still recovering from a weekend of tomfoolery and then Friday that's all they can think of. Always buy products made Tuesday through Thursday and you will be fine. Weekends are why we have lemon laws?

You make it sound like everything you buy should be perfect and never have a defect. And bye the way telling people what you paid for your vehicle doesnt make anyone sympathize with you, we all paid our hard earned money for our trucks and it is irrelevant whether it is $1000 or $100,000 you come off like a person who is spoiled and has to much money, especially with your line about your large mortgage company with employees who screw up all the time.

 

Go home grab a cigar and a glass of cognac and complain to your friends in the real world not on the internet.

 

Or just take your check from Dodge or Ford and buy the above mentioned treats.

What is the package you are referring, I thought I bought my denali with everything available. Never heard of any other packages.

 

Also as others have said, your truck has problems and the dealer is fixing it what is the issue? Yes it sucks to spend a lot of money and then have some issues but what do you expect?

 

As for the rental, yes that is total bs. You should call the dealer and say that is unacceptable and get something comparable. Seems like more of a dealer problem then a gm problem. I took my 15 denali in for the clutch pack recall and they put me in a yukon

 

I should have done more research before purchasing a GM product. NEVER AGAIN! I am completely disappointed in this purchase. GM products will not be an option for me in the future! Horrible service and Horrible product.

you guys are all saying bash the dealer but remember the dealer didnt build the truck and they are fixing it. Also they may have had no control on the rental car might have been only one left. I would ask for a different rental for sure and im sure they can find you a better one. No matter how mad you are and I would be too screaming at the dealership service employees will get you no where fast.

      Yea that's pretty normal to be off a few degrees.  Usually 2-4 degrees from say a weather app or thermometer.

      I just replaced the ambient air temperature sensor.  Easy as pie. I simply had to remove about 10-12 clips on the plastic cover over the radiator and remove two T-10 torx screws on the hood release lever to liberate the cover (Amazingly, none of the clips broke.  All came out and went back in with zero problems). Once the cover was removed, the temp sensor is easily accessible. The sensor cable snakes through a few guides and can be pulled out for even easier access to the sensor. I was able to work the sensor out of the mounting hole.  There is a red sliding catch on the plug that must be pulled back to disconnect the cable.  The plug was quite tight.  I had to use a screwdriver to pry it out. I plugged in the new sensor ($6.45 from RockAuto), snapped it into the mounting hole and re-snaked the cable. I put the radiator cover back on and reattached the lever arm to the hood release.  All done!     I started up my Suburban.  The temperature read 82 °F. Other thermometers at my house read 80 °F.  Close enough.  It might be reading high as my vehicle was sitting in the sun.

      That one looks decent for the price   BUT..I want something that also supports OBDI/1.5. A lot of the prosumer-grade scanners don't have legacy support in order to keep costs low. I believe the Autel does if you go higher end with them.   For fun, I reached out to a local Snap-On rep because I was interested in the 2600. $1895 MSRP, says he can do $1595. That's still a lot, but then again, that's not a horrible discount for just asking out of the blue. Could probably do better if I was a regular buying off his truck, but I'm not.   Not sure if I mentioned but I didn't realize with USED scanners from Snap On that you need to make sure a) the serial number isn't flagged as stolen. On the newer ones, SnapOn can remotely disable the device if it's flagged in their system. And, customer service can tell you if it is, if you're thinking about buying used. B) Make sure it's paid off. If the seller still owes money to the truck or if they financed through Snap On, the device can be remotely disabled until the balance is paid. It's less clear if SnapOn will tell you if a balance is still owed; I didn't make it that far with the used model I was considering. I did read that SnapOn has no way of tracking any "truck financing" deals between the SnapOn rep and buyer, only if they financed through corporate. So there's that extra caution needed.   Still waffling on whether I go with a ~$500ish Autel/TopDon or spend bigger money. The value seems to be in the prosumer brands. I'm not giving them enough credit TBH, actual production repair shops use them daily BUT I'm still allergic to certain kinds of underdog products trying to unseat American companies with solid reputations. SnapOn's scanner isn't wholly made in the US, but it is assembled here and they have US support and probably the most proven/ robust legacy support.   Something to think about. Value, or principles? There's a $1k difference.

      I'm thankful to live where we don't have extreme weather. We might all be blown to smithereens when Mt. Rainier goes, but 80 is warm enough in the summer and I can generally count the number of hard freezes in the winter on one hand. The cars here don't rust and they don't get sun-baked, either.   We have finished off many of our average 52 days of "clear/sunny" weather, though. Sunsets are coming earlier, the nights are a little cooler. It's right around the first week of September when we get our first warning that summer is coming to a close with overcast skies and the start of "hoodie weather" temperatures during the cooler parts of the day. By October, it's usually time to ditch the shorts. By November, it's mostly raining.
