+1 on the GLOCK 19. Also one I haven't seen mentioned is the Taurus PT111 G2 9MM. I know they have a bad rap lately, but I have one with numerous rounds through and love it. It is slightly smaller and easier to conceal than the GLOCK. Don't go cheap on holsters. Aliengear makes great stuff. I also have some Galco leather, and Desantis. You get what you pay for. Inform yourself and be safe. I will also say when you first start to carry, you will feel like you have a flashing billboard on your back that says "I have a gun!!" but as time goes on it will fade and you will start to feel like you are missing something when you don't carry.

What the hell is a first class city? Just a large one?

A first class city in pa is defined as a population of 1 million or greater. Only Philadelphia qualifies.

Late to the party..... but... I highly recommend the Smith & Wesson M&P 9c. It's been the most reliable, easy shooting, accurate, easy to learn, and easily maintained gun we've owned. It's been a great fit for both me & my husband. It fits my hands nicely..... (women tend to have problems finding guns that fit our small hands). It's not a CC gun for either of us due to its overall size.... however .... it would be a nice CC gun if you could fit it into your stature/wardrobe.

In my opinion.... If you've never owned or shot guns before..... the smaller cc type guns aren't the best to learn from. Between the 'less accurate' and 'more recoil' - they're just not as fun to shoot with. You've gotta make the first learning experiences FUN or else you won't be interested in it.

Once you get the basics and have some fun - venture into the CC world and smaller guns. But understand ...those smaller CC type guns were made for one reason..SELF DEFENSE. They're not meant to take to the range and shoot 100 rounds out of. ;)

Checked out a few Pistols at a Gun Shop and a S&W MP 9MM was my favorite. Not familiar with Semi Autos so ordered a Taurus 38+P and pick it Friday or Saturday. Very sure will be getting a S&W MP and Range membership

My first pistol purchase was used Springfield XDM 4.5" 9mm that I bought from one of my best friends. It was a great gun but I am happy it has since been replaced by my Glock 19.

Those Springfield XDM's are nice pistols, XD line as well but it's hard to beat a good ole' Glock 19. It was my first ever duty weapon & I still carry one in my concealed carry rotation. Perfect size pistol IMO.

Call me old fashion, but I can't get comfortable with an 'always cocked' over a live round, striker type Gun, regardless of make. I prefer either a straight single action like the 1911, a DA/SA (Sig, Beretta, etc), or a DA revolver. I realize each of those designs have their demons, but I'm more comfortable with them.

How is a 1911 (when properly carried anyhow) not cocked over a live round?

Ill guess at half cocked position

The 1911 is NOT a single action only pistol. A 1911 is just like any other pistol with an external hammer when loaded. The hammer is hanging over a live round, just like a striker fired pistol with a round in the chamber, you don't seem to know the difference between double action, double action only, and single action.

Single action only........That means each time you wish to fire a round, you must manually cock the hammer. The 1911 is a double action design, just like any other make of pistol you mention in your post. Each time you fire a round, the slide actually cocks the hammer for you. You seem confused about firearms, do some reading and research, educate yourself on firearms, you will see there is nothing to be afraid of or uncomfortable with.

Carrying an unloaded concealed weapon will do you no good if you ever need it. There is no time to draw the pistol, rack the slide, and then react. By the time all of that happens, it's far too late, you or your loved ones will already be a victim.

A striker fired pistol such as a Glock can not fire unless the trigger is fully depressed, it can't happen. There is nothing to be scared of carrying a pistol in the proper condition.

I've never heard of the 1911 being referred to as double action. Double action means the trigger cocks and releases the hammer. 1911s don't do that. You must cock the hammer the first time. Any listing of pistols will show the 1911 as SAO. My P220 which is similar is specifically labeled SAO by Sig.

You guys may have better/more experience than I or maybe you're just hanging on semantics. I'm just an old guy that gunsmithed for a half dozen shops in L.A.. I worked on anything. I don't know how many 1911s I've modified and fixed, nor how many other brands came across my bench. I bet I could assemble a 1911 (not a field strip) in a dark room. A 1911 has a real sear blocking safety as well as a trigger block grip safety. It's been more than 20 years since I smithed. I guess I'm just not up to date. I still prefer a 1911 design to striker fired gun. My choice. Clearly nothing wrong with all those striker fired guns. I'm just not comfortable with them. Again, my choice.

BTW, I have a Glock 22 40 S&W around here somewhere.

You were correct. A 1911 is single action.

    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling what the government, your government, data shows.   It wasn't an argument. It wasn't a suggestion. It was a statement of FACT. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. Your not entitled to your own facts. If you and I were, they wouldn't be facts.    fact /făkt/   noun Knowledge or information based on real occurrences. "an account based on fact; a blur of fact and fancy." Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed. "Genetic engineering is now a fact. That Chaucer was a real person is an undisputed fact." A real occurrence; an event. "had to prove the facts of the case." The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition • More at Wordnik   If you'd like to disagree call your Senator or Representative and let him know his departments are in error. But you and I? We are not doing this.
    • Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?
    • Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.
    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!! • We’ll have to agree to disagree. I didn’t experience or know anyone who had a decent car after 100K miles in the 60s through the 80s that were daily commuter vehicles. Unless they were collector vehicles. Of course things cost more due to inflation. But we also make more money. The biggest money drains these days are things people think they need today versus what we require back in the day. Like cell phones and internet as examples. Another example is where you live. Cost of living varies from state to state. I would need twice the money to live in NJ vs Texas in retirement. The car you recently purchased was less than my first car with inflation at 3000$ in 1973. I didn’t have air, electric windows, cruise etc. Purchasing power is equivalent, you just have to do the research.
