Discount Tire install - minor botch

Recommended Posts

So, after getting my truck home with some freshly installed AT KO2's from Discount Tire, I notice this little botch - a sticker left on the tire wedged between the sidewall and wheel.

Am I crazy for being bothered by this? Would anyone else seriously consider taking it back and having them remove the tire to get the sticker out? To me it is just sheer incompetence and a "YOU HAD ONE JOB!" type scenario. My other option, and the route I am likely to take, is taking a blade to it and carefully cutting as much of it off as possible. As annoying as it is, not sure I think it's worth another hour sitting in their waiting room.

Stupid question, as I'm sure the answer is no - but is there any possibility of this effecting the seal and allowing a very, very, very slow leak to occur if I leave it wedged in there?

Are you crazy? No

Should you take it back to get it removed? Eh, not sure.

I hear ya, now that you see it it drives you nuts and it's the only thing you look at. Have you tried cutting the sticker? I'm sure a super sharp exacto-knife would cut that without touching the tire.

That would drive me insane, I never would have left the parking lot like that.

Biggest bitch for me is outside wheel weights, hate them!

I love discount tire because of their customer service and they have always taken care of me. However I did have them order me new wheels when I noticed they had left indentions on the inside of 3 of my wheels from the machine that holds them in place while they put the tires on. It looked as if the nylon pieces had come off and the machine put 3 divots in the shape of a triangle in 4 different places on my wheels. A combination of me being anal and the wheels being brand spankin new I told them to order me a new pair or I would like my money back. The damage was merely cosmetic but I still demanded new wheels. They had new wheels for me in less than a week.

This thread comforts me, knowing now that I'm not alone with my OCD. That sticker would bother me to no end, but being the passive type, I'd just cut it off.

It would bother me but I would just remove it. Had that happen once on my old truck not a huge deal

Might be worth trying, let all the air out of the tire and see if you can simply remove the sticker then air the tire back up.

Definitely take it back and have them do it right. I know someone that bought a new Ford that had an issue with tires losing air because of the sticker.

Yes that would drive me nuts too. I would try to let air out of tire and remove yourself. May be less time than taking it back and having them remove wheel, tire, rebalance, etc

Unless it creates a pressure loss, it's not even worth mentioning.

The rim looks scratched up pretty good. Was that from your new tire install? Is that the inside or outside of tire?

It looks scratched up but that's actually just whatever grease or adhesive they used for the install. They Definitely didn't clean it up afterward.
