I was down at the Chevy dealer walking around and saw a 2016 Chevy 3500HD LTZ 4 wheel drive, that was lifted and had special dually rims and tires on it. I could not believe the sticker price....$91,000.00!

 

Then there was a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1WT, a plain white basic 8 foot bed single cab truck. .......$30,000.00! Wow!

 

Maybe I don't get out much. I think I will keep my 09 for as long as I can.

Yeah if you don't NEED a truck look at what else you can get for the 30k same price. Its nuts. Cars with heated and cooled seats, huge touchscreen nav, auto cruise, auto braking....

As long as stupid people (market demand) keep buying them at those prices the truck prices will never go down. I paid a little over $21 for my WT1 and it will probably be the last vehicle I will ever buy. It was a year old in July and only has 4600 miles on the clock and I will be 46 soon.

It's un frickin believable how expensive trucks are getting. The problem is people are willing to finance themselves out to the moon and back and as long as they can swing the payment..... you too can have a 65,000 dollar truck in your driveway, I mean cmon, an 8 year loan?!? Another thing you're seeing is the soccer mom crowd is starting to drive them too, can't tell you how many fully decked out Denali's I see with 3 kids hopping out at Cheerleader, soccer, theater practice etc. The truck will never see a dirt road, just lots of door dings at the shopping mall.

 

Would love to have 2016 fully loaded LTZ.....the chances of that are as good as SpongeBob becoming president LOL. Give it a few years, at the current rate only the rich will be able to afford these things!

I wonder if its CAFE creep. Price them higher and higher to try and lower sales to help CAFE numbers out. So far its not working lol as people are still buying large trucks and the OEM's are discounting the crap out of them.

 

Then you have the Colorado/Canyon which are in the 30k pricing of those larger trucks, and ignoring any rebates, are near loaded or loaded for the price of a WT 1500.

Guess you haven't looked at any sales charts in the last few decades? OEMs aren't that stupid.

 

They have explained it. In a FCA press event someone said people will buy them as expensive as they can make them, so they keep adding options and raising prices until people stop buying.

To think I bought my truck that was already 15 years old and has 363k miles on it for only $2500. Even with all the repairs done on it I'm probably around $5k invested and it's everything I "need" in a truck and has a few "wants" as well. I saw the price tag in your post and my jaw took a dump....$91k?!?! My last two vehicles I purchased brand new combined didn't cost that much.

That $91,000 price tag has a lot to do with the dealership having things installed and added to the truck. The lift, tires, WHEELS, exhaust, and whatever other work they had done to that truck.

 

The 3500HD trucks are expensive to begin with, factor in all of that aftermarket nonsense and the prices seem to climb rather quickly. If you were to have it priced out, it wouldn't be nearly as much BUT stealerships get their moneys worth when it comes to trucks like that because they are actually attractive to the buyers.

 

Dealers around my area do the same thing with the 1/2 ton pickups. Install a lift, tires, WHEELS, exhaust, and add silly emblems and stickers to the truck then they jack the price up. Can't really blame them though because the trucks seem to sell pretty quick. If people would take the time and price the aftermarket items on their own, they could actually save money having the same stuff added to the truck after they buy it BUT dealerships are willing to honor full warranty on those trucks but tell you if you purchase the truck and have things installed after the fact they will not do so and that's what gets people hooked and they pay crazy prices the dealers make up. It's crazy but there is a market for it so you can't blame them really.
