How many quarts does it take. Is it 8 or 8.5 quarts. I got the 5.3.

With new filter, 8 quarts puts mine dead on the top dot full mark.

The Engine Oil Capacity – with Oil Filter for all GEN V, V8 5.3L and 6.2L engines has been reduced from 8.5 quarts to 8.0 quarts.

This change has been implemented in SI and will be reflected in future Owner Manuals.

You must have been using an old filter. The new filters changed and now the capacity is 8 qts. Doesn't matter the year.

Thanks guys. Thought I remembered seeing something on the capacity change.

Did my 1st oil change at 2200 miles and used Amsoil oil and filter. Capacity was about 8.25 quarts or a tad more.

Ironically enough, I just changed my oil yesterday and I put 7570.82 ml of Mobil 1 in my 5.3. Even though I live in the US for some unknown reason, all the jugs had the amount of oil in ML... weird.
