Retractable Tonneau Cover - Who's got one?

Roll & Lock, ReTrax, Pace-Edwards (are there more?) - Who's got one and how do you like it and would you buy another one.

I'm leaning towards the Roll & Lock.

I have the Pace Edwards Bedlocker. It's not cheap but we'll worth the $$. I would definitely buy again. I love the low profile, nobody knows it's there.

What are the specs on those toyos? Are they the extreme size ones?

I don't know what area of the country you are in but I always wondered about freezing and snow here in the east for when you want to open them.

I have a Roll-N-Lock with the powder coated aluminum finish. Love everything about it except for the strap which can be a pain depending on your load. Also the very front of the unit (where it retracts) is raised about 3/4 inch above the bed which draws attention to itself as it is not flush like the rest of the cover. Part of this is by design as the switch knob recesses into that portion allowing it to stay "locked" when fully retracted until you pull on the strap.

The dealer added it at his cost when i purchased the truck and while i am happy with it overall, if i had it to do all over again I would look at the Retrax products.

Retrax MX Pro ordered. We have extreme cold and snow, so it will likely stay closed throughout the winter unless dry. In our case, we need the retractable features primarily for warmer seasons. I'll update once she goes on the truck and sees some weather.

I installed the same Roll-N-Lock on my 2002 Silverado 2500HD. It was a real pain in our Minnesota winters. I regularly had ice and snow build up on the top in a way that would not allow it to be rolled up into the box. The top material eventually developed splits all over the place and the strap that tinman mentioned above always bugged me. I had a Pace-Edwards on my previous truck and it was great except for 2 things -

 

Winter Ice and Snow was real problem with a truck parked outside.

Debris getting in the cover box was a real problem and when the drains plugged up the water and ice/snow problem was major.

 

After I started parking in a garage every night, most of the grief went away. Snow/ice melts and no debris in the box from setting outside.

 

When I bought the 2011, I went with a tri-fold.

I tried a RollnLock back in 2002. Besides the winter snow/ice issues, mine rattled a lot, leaked water in near the tailgate, and the vinyl top was pretty faded after only 2 years. Hopefully they improved the design/quality since then?

 

A few years ago my brother tried the Rollbak which is made by Bakflip. It wasn't that great either.

 

I've had more recent success with the Bakflip HD folding cover on my last truck, and so far the Roll-X rolling cover is working great on my Sierra. I now park inside my garage so I don't have the winter snow/ice issues anymore.

I had one on my 2013. While i liked the idea of it i would not buy another. I have a snuglid on my 2015. The retractable one was 75-80% water proof and i need as close to 100%. That was my main issue with it. The snuglid so for is 100% water proof due to going over the bed rails and stake pockets.

I park in the garage when I'm home. I understand about maintenance to keep the drains open etc. But, I need a secure cover and one that will allow me to haul tall loads. There are things I like about all three covers I've mentioned. If you own one of them or have owned one in the past, keep the comments coming, I'm interested...

Gator makes one called Gatortrax. It is basically a Retraxone without the name. Checkout TonneauCoverWorld.com.

 

It is a little bit cheaper.

The Gator looks a whole lot like one of the others I've looked it.....I forget which one, but that little video of the sealed ball bearings it rolls on is the same as whatever the other brand is. I worry that the little plastic opening handle and it's weather proof cover won't last very long.
