Sean Demura Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 2016 owners, Is the picture quality on the backup camera any better than the 2014/2015? It's abysmal on my '15, while my wife's '14 Equinox practically has an HD picture. If it is better, I wonder if I could just swap the camera out...
steelcity Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 No. Grainy at night and not much better during the day.
redwngr Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'm finding my 16 to be better than the 15 it replaced.
TxTruckMan Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I don't get what the complaint is? You want a 4K UHD TV for a backup camera? Is there something you're not able to see with the current one? Do you frequently run into things that are hard to see? I agree that the picture isn't 1080p, but I think it's more than adequate for it's intended purpose, no?

The backup camera is not meant to be watching movies or videos. It is just for that 10 seconds you back out of the garage or the parking space.
relsoc Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 The picture quality on my 16' is horrible. the 15' was way better. thinking about having the camera replaced to see if it improves.
TxTruckMan Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I know it's obvious, but make sure to verify that your lens is clean.
gmckenzie Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 x2. The backup camera is not meant to be watching movies or videos. It is just for that 10 seconds you back out of the garage or the parking space. I use mine when hooking up my trailer, and it could be a bit clearer for that.
IOMike Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 The picture quality on my 16' is horrible. the 15' was way better. thinking about having the camera replaced to see if it improves. Unrelated...but is your truck black or Iridium Gray? Looks great in the pic!
Skeeter McSkeet Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Noticed my picture was real grainy yesterday backing out of work nothing like I'm used to seeing the past year...Yea I had dirt all over it lol. -Skeet
TxTruckMan Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I also noticed coming from a 2014 to the 2015 that they did make a lens change. My 2014 had a flat lens and my 2015 has a spherical lens. I don't know why as I can't see any differences visually.
jonboy77 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 The picture quality on my 16' is horrible. the 15' was way better. thinking about having the camera replaced to see if it improves.Nice truck. Looks good. I like the way the 2016s look. Back to your response that the 2016 is horrible... But like Black03Yukon said. Have you cleaned the lens off? It should be the same quality. Defiantly not worse. I think your just rubbing in the fact you have a 2016. ;)

My 2015 is crystal clear, so much that I can easily read small writing of objects behind it. You may have a defective camera...
