So for a typical wash on a weekend, a rinse, a soap, a rinse, dry and apply a sealant and call it good?

I recommend a basic detail (wash, clay, wax) twice a year (sooner if you live in a harsh climate), between that, just wash the truck (using the two bucket method) and call it good. A good wax or sealant will last 4-6 months.

Are you using a power washer? Theres foam "cannons" and foam "guns" the guns mount to a standard hose and dont do that well. They certainly make it easier to wash but the foam cannons are the ones that make the rich thick sticky foam.

That's what I was missing. Mine hooks up to the regular hose :nonod:

I like using Chemical Guys products. In fact, I just did a full truck detail a few weeks ago. I washed and claybared the whole truck, sealed with JetSeal, and then Waxed with Butterwet Wax.

JetSeal is great on glass too, not just paint. Lasts a long time too. I was driving in the rain yesterday and made a video of the water just sliding off the glass. Didn't even need my wipers on.

So a few more questions:

  • If i clay bar do i have to wax?
  • What is the difference between a sealant and a wax and which should i use?
  • How often should i do a full detail (wash, clay, wax or sealant)?
  • Is just doing a regular wash (i.e. rinse, foam gun, wash, dry) ok weekly?

Clay barring should be done prior to polishing and waxing. No reason to do it unless you are doing a full detail.

  • What is the difference between a sealant and a wax and which should i use

Sealants last longer (up to a year) but they do nothing to "improve" the finish. Waxes last 3-4 months depending on care but will do a better job of hiding any minor swirls and will add some depth and shine to the paint. I use a sealant topped with a good carnauba wax, and rewax ever 3-4 months.

  • How often should i do a full detail (wash, clay, wax or sealant)?

See above.

Its not so much how often you wash but how you wash. You want to avoid putting any swirls in the paint. Best way ive found to do this is with a foam cannon to blast away the big loose particles than a two bucket method to do a final wash. Be sure to use the smallest amount of pressure possible to remove the dirt. Dont "scrub" the truck clean.

Ok so i just bought my "new to me" truck (2014 Sierra SLT). So....i cannot fit my truck into our garage due to my wife's car and storage. We live in a garden home so garage space is limited. I had a few questions and please don't bite my head off for asking them:

1. Since my truck is parked outside how frequently should i wash him?

2. What products (truck exterior, tires, and interior) do you all recommend? i.e. soaps, leather cleaners, tire shine, etc...

3. I have never waxed a car or truck before....how often does that need to happen?

4. Since i have never waxed a truck before, should i just go get it detailed when it is time for a wax?

5. What should i use to clean the chrome?

Truly thank you all in advance, and i am so happy to have come across this forum!

Happy Truckin!

Probably a noob question, but if I use the foam cannon, do i still need to do the two bucket method?

I'm in the process of getting a foam cannon from Chemical Guys and I'll probably be using the 2 bucket method. It won't hurt if you do use the two bucket method.

reason i ask is because i did just the foam cannon and afterwards noticed that there was still some dirt on the truck, which would have come off with a wash mitt.

guess i'll go get some grit guards next.

Yeah you still need to scrub the truck down. You might just need one bucket just to rinse off the mit though.
