adding oem skid plates to regular 4x4 silverado 1500

I'm confused. Is this kit OEM or an aftermarket product?

 

And if you already have a Z71, can you just use the existing skid plate bolts and holes in the frame and just swap the skid plates themselves?

I think there are 2 extra bolts used for the metal plates.

 

I am about to replace my stock plastic plates with the GM aluminum. The plastic plates will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Finally got around to putting mine on today, been sitting in my garage for a month now. As stated earlier, not to difficult to put on but would be easier if you had a second pair of hands. I of course didn't so I used my motorcycle jack to help maneuver the plates into position. As advised, I went ahead and screwed in the two self tapping screws into the unused holes on the frame just to make sure they were going in straight. I don't need the transfer skid plate so it will be up for sale on fleabay soon unless someone on here who has a non-Z71 truck would like to buy it. My truck is a 2014 with a December 2013 build date and everything went on fine. One thing different with mine is that I just needed a 15mm socket, I didn't have to remove the metal reinforcements from the stock plastic skid plate, they were bolted to the plastic skid plate only.

I don't know why GM cheaped out and didn't put these at least on the Z71 trucks. The plates are aluminum but are thick enough to ward off most things that the weekend warrior may run into. I still have the skid plate from my 2002 Z71 truck that I removed when I had to work on my leaking axle seals and never put back on. The one from my old truck is about twice as thick but half the size due to the different configuration of the 99 to 06 trucks. And of course it came standard for all 4x4 trucks back then (have had two work trucks, a 1999 and 2003), that were base models and they had the aluminum skid plate.

Grill with less crome was worth the Z71 package price to me lol

 

I would go take a pic and knock on mine to see what they really are but... Its 14 degrees outside lol

That was also the main reason I chose the Z71, better looking grill and rims IMO. Your will be plastic, just like every other K series truck. I was looking at the transfer skid plate on parts websites and found out it does not come with the self tapping bolts and those things are pricey, about $6 a piece (more than that with shipping). Looks like my transfer skid plate with the needed 4 bolts will be going up on fleabay this afternoon.

Got mine added yesterday, if you do not do the kit then you will need two additional bolts. They are the same two bolts that attach the plastic skid plate to the radiator support or are the same ones as the ones that are bolted to the two metal skid plates under the plastic skid plate. They are not the same as the small ones that hold up the plastic skid plate in the back FYI. I mistakenly bought the small ones and couldn't finish the install so had to go back for the larger ones. Hope that helps, really easy to do...

has anyone added the oem skid plates to a regular 2015 LT 4x4? these would be the same ones a z71 has... i found all the parts online... looks like for less than $150 you can have the same feature as a z71.

 

thoughts, anyone done this? am i missing anything?

I have the OEM skid plates mounted on mine and my wife's High Country's. They are aluminium but are thick enough to help a lot. Have had the trucks off road a lot and skid plates have held up and do help out. There are to many electrical parts behind that thin plastic plate for me, so I bought them right after getting the trucks.
