The only thing worse than seeing this is the fact they still allow 80 year olds to drive a 50,000lb RV with just a normal driver's license. If you can't back up a trailer, maybe you shouldn't be pulling trailers.....

If you can't back it up without that you should not be pulling it. Anyways, it is really is not that hard is it to back up a trailer If you take your time.

That is far worse IMO. One of my first driver's ed road lessons I was nearly run off the road by some geezer in one of those coach bus-sized RVs. I was shocked that anyone, be it me after another couple months with a brand new license or some old fart who can't see/hear worth a damn can cut a giant check and drive off with one of those.

I'm assuming it guns the trailer with the backup sensors to determine the angle of the trailer? I'm pretty sure when you option that feature they'd be required to revoke your man card.

No replacement for experience! All they did was replace the driver turning the wheel for turning a knob....I'm sorry but whoopee,whoopee... What if your driving a trailer that you can't see around to the back? Still need a spotter so the system is null and void in my book. Plus the course they had was about the easiest you can get. I've had to make 90 degree turns with my travel trailer, that takes skill, not a camera and a knob!

If you can't back a trailer don't pull one. One of two things are going to happen.

1. You are going to use the function and rely solely on it and take out cars, etc.because you can't control it for crap with that little knob.

2. While using it, the system is going to malfunction and cause a lot of damage and the driver is going to try to say it was the truck's fault, not his. Or even sue.

Some of the technology in trucks is pretty cool and useful but this is just wrong. Part of the reason and fun of owning a truck is getting to pull and back a trailer. That is something that I will never let technology do for me. It's something that should only be attempted by a person because there are too many variables when backing/pulling a trailer. It's also something I've always enjoyed doing.

One other thought. Does it still sense if something runs behind the trailer like a kid or dog and stop the truck?

Jeez what a rough crowd.

It's interesting technology, people will rely on it as a crutch just like they do with every other electronic safety/convenience system out there. And just like those, this will be loaded with disclaimers so when someone does something stupid they can't sue Ford. I'd like to try it but even with my trailer skills being basic, I feel like this would be reinventing the wheel so to speak and you'd have to ignore intuition from normal trailer backing.

I agree that it would be better to not tow a trailer if you can't drive it in reverse.

But the same goes for,

you can't stay in your lane - don't drive

you can't pay attention to the traffic in front of you - don't drive

you don't know how to use the turn signal - don't drive

you think the blue light in your dash board is pretty - don't drive

you don't get the concept of a travel lane and a passing lane - don't drive

...and so on.

so long

I'd like to see a device that sends shock pulses in the drivers seat to get to the right on the highway.

What I find funny is I see this no different than everyone on here that praises traction control and stabilitrack functions. If you couldn't handle the vehicle without them you honestly shouldn't have a drivers license either... in fact it's even worse. Most people I know struggle backing up the truck they drive by itself let alone with a trailer. This steers for you but still relies on your input. What I didn't see is if the truck corrects when backing straight up... I imagine it does. I don't think it's awful but I probably wouldn't use it... But for the majority of people that cant handle their vehicle this will be a god send.... much like the afforementioned functions I generally disable too. I still think it's neat technology though.
