OEM Tires

So I just got a new 6.2 L Sierra Denali and they came with the LS2 Good Years. So far the tires are OK, but I have not had any snow or ice to really test them. I traded in my lifted Silverado with Good Year Adventures with Kevlar. I absolutely loved those tires. From driving on street, to my farm, to hunting and especially snow.

So my question is - should I keep these LS2s? Or bite the bullet and upgrade to Adventures. Has anyone taken their trucks on muddy (1inch) off road and/or ice with them? Did they perform ok?

Thanks!

The LS2 is a street tire, if you said this was just a grocery getting truck I would say run them bald then put on some decent tires, with the fact that you use the truck to go hunting and drive at the farm I say trade them asap and put real tires on now!

Semper Fi!

While i do not have these, i have the SRA stock on the 5.3L a buddy of mine has the same tires as you are referencing and like "Smiler" stated they are good for dry street driving not nothing more. You may get lucky and a tire shop may even buy those new tires off of you.

You will enjoy a decent set of tires for when you go hunting!

I have them on my truck and they are OK here in south Florida, but there is no way I would try to run them in snow, ice or any real muddy conditions. They do perform above average on wet roads, but my truck only has 1400 miles on it so the tires are still at full tread depth.

I have the same truck and put 7500 miles on the LS2 tires. Although they did what they were supposed to my truck did vibrate with them. Switched to the Goodyear duratracs I got 400 for the LS2s. Duratracs very great traction in whatever ever I drive in. My dad has went through 3 sets of the adventure tires and hates them. They've all been replaced under the warranty they've only lasted about 25000 miles and he says the traction sucks on them. Stick with what you like though if they've been a good tire for you.

Do the duratracs make a drone noise when using them? I noticed they have pretty aggressive thread.

I am looking to upgrade to KO2's when my Bilstein's get here. The one tire shop I talked to offered me $100 per tire for my SRA's that have 10,000km on them. I'm thinking I should have jumped at that offer a couple months ago. haven't talked to them lately.

I guess my one issue is the possibility of the vibration issue.. Once I start messing around with taking off tires, etc, and I get vibration, I know they will blame me....

Or is the vibration issue fixed with the 2016s? How soon do you know you have it? Right away?

First, the vibration issue was never a real issue. Yes some people did experience but they are part of a very small group of owners. I've read countless threads about it but never once met another owner that had that problem. So with that being said I wouldn't be worried about getting new tires. As long as you buy good tires that aren't cheaply made in china then you'll be ok and any tire shop will be able to properly balance them.

There isn't much of a difference at all if there is any

Between a Duratrac and stock? That just isn't true...

OP, they are louder, not horrible but noticeable. Those tires many have said get a good amount louder past 50% worn. The ones I have ridden in have been closer to new and I could hear them, less than a mud terrain but still noticeable.

Don't notice much of a noise difference... They are brand new though time will tell if they get louder I guess. My brother has has his for quite awhile and doesn't notice a difference either

The LS2s will be much better and quieter on the highway, useless in deep mud, and only okay in the ice. The ATs will be better off road, louder on the highway, and probably a little worse than the LS2s on ice. I think the LS2s have some sipping. Which do you need more? If you off-road much, you want something better than the LS2s. I'd go with an AT if you drive in deep mud much. If it's only 1" mud (i.e. wet dirt trails) you might be okay with the LS2s, but anything worse and I wouldn't trust them. A highway tire is the worst for mud.

Buy the tires of your choice and throw those Goodyear racing slick equivalents up on CL. Plenty of good options for a good AT tire without having to break the bank. Cooper Discoverer AT3s, Nitto Terra Grappler, Hankook Dynapros and Toyo Open Country get a lot to of love and have good on road manner without killing your gas mileage, handling and excessive road noise.
