How-To: Install LED's That Blink Correctly 2010 Sierra (GMT900).

so tonight I changed out my front bulbs to leds.

first step is to read my diy on how to get to the headlights if you don't already know. second time doing it, its like it comes natural, I had the truck apart in like 10 mins.

Once you get to the step where you remove the headlight unhook the main harness at the bottom and take the whole lens. Install whatever led bulbs you want to, on mine I did both the amber turn signals and the headlight. the headlight is plug and play no issue there, they DONT need resistors. The turn signals are different since they need a resistor to prevent "hyper flash". That leads to the issue of, what wires do I use? I had in mind using the ones directly off the bulb but thanks to some help on here someone posted a wire diagram that simplifies it.

so to add your resistors all you have to do is hook one side of the resistor to each black wire on each side. BOTH sides have 2 black wires, I used both, 1 for each resistor. On the driver side, the wire you need is light blue and white. Connect BOTH of the other sides of each resistor to the same wire (light blue and white). The passenger side wire is dark blue and white so same situation connect one side of EACH resistor to a separate black wire and the other sides on each resistor hook to the dark blue and white. Each led bulb needs a resistor, I installed 2 bulbs and only one resistor and it didn't work, you need one resistor for each BLINKING bulb. I will be doing the rear later and will post about that when I do it. it will be similar, there are 4 blinking bulbs in the rear also. any questions let me know, not responsible for any issues you may cause on your own.

as far as parts used I just ordered the bulbs and resistors off of ebay. I have noticed that Walmart sells some led bulbs and basically the same resistors I used from ebay. obviously they are cheaper on ebay. it is definitely a cool mod, much brighter and makes the truck stand out.

post-154506-0-97115800-1460914008_thumb.jpgfinished the rear last week just getting time to post about it. so for the rear i had to drop the spare to the ground, dont unhook it just set it down. look up under the truck near the back bumper and there is a group of 4 connectors. follow the wires to the taillights of the side you are working on and unhook the corresponding connector. for the passenger side, the wires you need are black and dark green. hook one wire of EACH resistor to the black wire and the other wire on each resistor to the dark green wire. once again you need one resistor per blinking bulb. secure the resistors and plug the plug back in. for the drivers side the wire colors are black and yellow. connect the same way as the passenger side.

I tried what I thought was the same thing up by the taillight. this method did not work. I don't know what the difference is but it doesn't work. one of the members on here tried the same thing with the front parking lights and it did not work either.

I haven't taken pics of the back yet but will try to post some of the front. pics of the lights on are in my gallery

Nice writeup, but ditch those scotchlocks. I know a lot of you guys like using those, but they are Gawwwbage. Using them anywhere on a vehicle that will be exposed to the elements is a death sentence for your wiring. Expect black and green wires in the next year or two. The poor connections that they make, especially with potential incorrect gauge sizes, may very well be contributing to your problem with placement for the tailights. I've done a number of LED mods like this, and never had issues placing the resistors.
