Went to see how fast my truck would go and was disappointed that it governed at 99MPH. :(

Is that really the top speed stock?

Yea it is. I think 2014s could do 110.

Nope, my '14 cuts off at about 98.

I don't think a certain configuration determines the top speed. The only thing I can think of is maybe where someone lives. Especially since both my old '98 Silverado and my buddy's '06 Sierra cut off at the same speed as my '14.

Hopefully you werent trying to snap chat your speed.

Check your tires what are they rated for. Thats one of your limiting factors

No, no snapchat. :). There's a new toll road that most people go 85+. My coworker in his Corolla can go over 100 so I was challenged. :)

With the tune I have got up to 140 and the damn hood looked like it was gonna fly off... I think there was more in it maybe 150 or so. 3.08 gear

Stock was something retarded like 95 mph on my 2015 6.2...... the speedo was out enough with the stock tire size to make it even lower lol. Now it's whatever I want with the tune but I haven't gone beyond 120...... it really stops pulling with any real excitement before that speed and just gets boring.

140? Do you have an upgraded driveshaft or anything like that? Seems like a scary speed for a truck haha!

My 2014 GMC All Terrain with the 6.2 was 112, my new 2016 in the same configuration is 98, well it was. Now it is the same as my 2014 truck was.

The governor on these trucks is dependent on the wheel/tire setup.

No business going above 100mph with the oem wheels and tires.....on public roads to boot.

Nothing to do with the wheel, it is based on the speed rating of the tire and also the driveline (driveshaft) as well. The stock Goodyear SR-A tire is rated to 112mph per Goodyear. So with the trucks getting the 98mph limiter it is not based on the tire rating.

It about manufacturer liability. How stable is the vehicle at speeds. GM would be liable if the vehicle were capable of exceeding the tires speed rating. I've heard Vette owners say they get theirs raised (VCM re programmed) if they sign a waiver and demonstrate Z or better speed rated tires installed. There's a wide variety of tires used due to different wheels, rear end ratios, vehicle GVWR (as well as the tires are a commodity and various manufactures products are swapped during bidding from suppliers) . Hard to cal the vehicles limit to the specific tire installed, so lowest common denominator applies.

Well wheels and tires go together......

I have a 2016 and though in previous years the limiter was at 99 -

I had my new 2016 up to 108mph onthe highway before I let off the throttle - I took a picture of it if you guys want proof - Totally stock no modifications other than a drop in k&n filter.

I think it will go faster but I have no interest in finding out. 5.3l v8 w/ 3.08 gears
