Grade Braking

I thought you could turn it off by holding tow-haul for 6 sec???

It may be related to braking duration and intensity. Not used to driving a truck, so I follow the THROW OUT THE ANCHOR WE STOPPIN approach...I usually get grade braking to kick on...usually on a grade. If I brake more gradually and gently, it won't come on. Just my experience.

I saw a noticeable difference in grade braking while utilizing cruise control on the highway. When cruising @65 MPH over an overpass with grade braking enabled, grade braking keeps the speed @65 MPH. When I disabled grade braking, on the downward slope, the truck will naturally gain speed to about 66 or 67 MPH and eventually come back down to 65 MPH and the cruise control will keep on with that... Personally I don't ever notice it because I'm used to it. I've never noticed it with city driving either.

You can but every time you shut the truck off it resets back to "On" and you have to hold the button down again each time you start the truck. The OP was asking about a way to keep it disabled all the time so you don't have to disable it each time.

I'd be willing to bet it could all be tuned out but then we get into warranty issues.

for my last tank of fuel, i've turned off grade braking everytime i started the truck. i haven't noticed any real difference in mpgs, it doesn't engine brake as much when i coast down inclines. i'll continue to turn it off for the next 2 tanks to see if anything really changes. i have noticed that the trans seems to shift a bit better with it off, but i'm not sure if that's the "placebo effect" or not.

I have 2014 if you press and hold the TOW/Haul button for 5 seconds it will disable.

Yes but only until you restart the truck. The OP is trying to have it off all the time so you don't have to press the button each time you start the truck.

Wrong, no way to tune it out. It is a function of the BCM module, there are very few people who can tune a GM BCM. Way too much of a liability issue if they were tune out the grade braking feature.
