are bug/rock deflectors worth it?

I'm about to touch up some nicks on the front of my hood, which i obtained from just traveling on the highway. After i do this, i would LIKE to try and limit the amount that this happens, and contemplated a bug/rock deflector. How well do they work?

I've had a few on some of my past vehicles. They worked good at preventing chips on the front of the hood, but they made a lot of wind noise, and also made the weatherstrip at the top of the windshield make noise. If I was doing it over again I'd go with a clear film instead.

I cant mentally imagine what a clear bra is without having horrible flashbacks to my first time doing the deed, lol. But what IS it exactly?

I have a black pickup so the shield is barely noticeable. My hood is in very good shape for a 10 year old vehicle. I used to drive 2 90's pickups with and without the shield, and the difference in the amount of bugs on each windshield was really noticeable.

I would also recommend a clear bra. Mine was chipping terrible on the bumper. Had Xpel put on. Pics are taken to intentionally show the seam. If I don't tell people about it, they can't tell. No chips since getting it applied.

My trucks black, some opted for the avs aeroskin. It blends in great and you can't tell its on there unless you walk up and look up close.

Do you guys think the film will work well with Autumn Bronze Metallic?

AVS has an Aeroskin hood protector that sticks on your hood with 3M Automotive grade tape. Adds good protection from rocks and bugs and comes in chrome or black. I'll try to find a picture

Is that xpel worth the $400+ price tag?

I originally considered just getting the aeroskin since normally is just the edge of the hood that catches the chips. Especially with coming soon here in Montana (actually I guess winter is already here since it snowed this past Monday)

I've replaced two on trucks over the years as they took the hit instead of the hood.

To me it's cheaper to replace something I can take off and replace then dealing with Insurance, losing it while it's in for repair and all of that BS.

I've always liked the look of them being on.
