Performance Chip/Programmer

I would like to know what a good performance chip / programmer would be. I want something that I can download from the PC and plug into the truck. I don't need or have to have a stand alone unit. I have a 2015 Sierra 1500 SLE with the 5.3 liter. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

please refrain from using the word chip, there is no such thing. You are looking for a performance engine/transmission tune. What are you looking to improve upon? I would personally look at blackbearperformance.com

I want to get rid of the speed limiter and add more torque. When I am traveling, I would like to get the better gas mileage. My brother-n-law has a GMC as well that we bought both trucks on the same day from the same dealership. Don't mean to be this way but want to be a little quicker off the line. He and I, unfortunately, are always in competition with each other. I do not want a stand alone unit. My better half doesn't need to know.

 

By the way, I will refrain from calling it a chip.

Cheapest way would have been to talk him into a 308 gear and you get the 345. Aliitle knock on the gas millage not much. A tune will do it as you get moving, one truck could be faster then the other just by chance. E85 is another way, if you have the yellow cap and he doesn't game changer.

So - what mods have you performed on your truck that would take advantage of a "tune"?

 

You don't need to retune the PCM for air box, muffler or exhaust mods or headers. If you have changed the rear gear or installed larger tires you could buy a box tuner to compensate the transmission speed reporting - but minor mods to the engine really don't require a "tune".

 

Do your mods - and reset the PCM by pulling a few fuses for 30 minutes - reinstall and go drive it - it will be in learn mode and will compensate automatically to your new mods.

I have a bully dog gt on my high Country. 6.2L motor. I always have mine on eco mode (it's called a standard tune). Best mpg I've ever seen is 23.7 on a two lane highway going 60mph for several hours.

 

It it's "performance" is on, I can roast the tires on a 40mph roll (Trac/stabilitrack turned off, manual geared in first, and stupid Goodyear eagle tires)

 

Overall I don't regret buying it. I was skeptical about these little things, but it works well for me

IMO - once you rest the modules - the learn function takes over and will compensate wit better breathing.

 

Unless you have a larger cam, head work, wild intake and other such mods - a module reset should take care of it.

 

I mean - most of the stuff we are doing is simply helping the engine breathe better - and the PCM's from 2012 or so and later will learn - especially 2014 and up.

 

My opinions - and I have that opinion because I have never seen a box tune or a pro tune make a huge difference on a mostly stock engine. A pro tune on s mostly stock rig will mainly focus on torque values and not actual horsepower.

It will drive better - that's for sure - but unless you have some serious HP mods a "tune" isn't really worth it - reset your modules and go drive the snot out of it.
