My explorer has capless fill. It's fine until you want to use a gas can to put fuel in. Then you need there special little funnel. I'd rather just have a cap.

I just use a screwdriver. The lid locks are tabs on each side that have to be pushed in at the same time for the lid to open. So I just use my gas funnel to hit one side of the tabs, and a flat blade screwdriver to hit the other, and then jam the funnel in.

It's probably about the same amount of effort, but at least I can just grab the tools with the can out of the garage, instead of digging in the car.

Lets not compare twisting (key) with pushing (button) to start a car with cranking and button pressing for window operation. Takes no more effort or time. Window buttons are a massive improvement.

Especially if you're alone and worse if you have a back seat and it starts to rain. My first truck was an '86 Chevy C10 with manual windows and I didn't mind it until that happened where I was driving and it started to rain so I had to actually pull over just to roll the passenger window up. Of course some features are nice and even needed, but I just don't see having the keyless start and door unlock a huge difference. If your hands are full then put some sh*t down. Younger people (even though I'm just 31) probably don't believe that vehicles back in the day had a separate keys for the ignition than for the rest of the vehicle like doors and a trunk. Of course advancement is a good thing, but sometimes you can go too far in my opinion. Like the self driving Tesla or a car that parallel parks for you. I mean personally I think needing a key to start the truck (other than remote start) to me is more of a piece of mind and maybe even safer and on a different level than just automatic headlights and electric features.

 

Maybe that's just me though, I don't know lol.

Not to side track this thread but once you have keyless entry and start you really miss it. I constantly grab the door handle on my Silverado expecting it to open. I hate digging into my pocket for keys now.

 

This is my only veh without keyless features.

 

My 2009 Harley just requires the FOB in your pocket (or near by) to start the bike, BUT if you have no fob you can enter into the bike computer your code to still start the bike - not to be stranded ...

Ya because it's so hard and takes so much time to get your keys out of your pocket and put an actual key in the ignition. Plus I've heard of times where a passenger was the one with the keys and they got dropped off or something and the driver just drove off with no problem without the keys.

Both K2X SUV's I've owned with keyless ignition passive entry will give off annoying alerts if you walk away from a running vehicle with the FOB in your pocket. Pretty hard to do on accident.

 

It truly is an option that if you have it, you are lost without it! It is so convenient to just touch the door handle and open the doors. Have the doors lock automatically when you exit and just touch a button on the dash to start and stop the engine. All the while just keeping the key FOB in your pocket. I do liken it to the difference of having to unlock your door with a key and having keyless entry. Could anyone sanely live without keyless entry nowadays? It's s progression of technology and I guess I am young and do get excited about new tech and autonomous features that "work" for me!

 

Just my 35 year old thoughts, no insults intended.

Well I'm 31 and like tech, but like I said, too me it can get too far. I know it's nice, but too me I feel better having to unlock the door and put a key in to be able to drive the truck. I like the auto headlights and things like that, but keyless entry and keyless start (not remote start) is too much for me personally. I'm not going to talk bad to someone if they like it better, I'm just giving my opinion and as people can tell on here I'm opinionated. I could care less if someone has a different opinion than me, But I have no problem giving mine.

Keyless entry is awesome. So is push button start. IMO GM is a little behind on the issue. Once you have it, you'll like it.

I'd much rather see a locking fuel door than a capless fuel filler. I can't believe these trucks do not have a locking fuel door. It may sound a little cynical but I don't trust the general public with my truck!

That was one of the first things I did was replace the fuel door with a lockable one. I think I even ordered it the first week.

 

It's not as bad now, but a few years ago there were kids going around vandalizing. Not huge stuff, but someone flattened a tire on my truck and about 3 others. Someone also went by with a BB gun shooting out windows and luckily my '98 had dark tinted windows and they were a bad shot and missed and left a small dimple int he paint just below the window. Honestly I'm at the point where if I don't know you personally I can't trust you lol.

I am dumbfounded by SouthernSilvey's reminder that my door/trunk key was different from my ignition key!!! I have completely forgotten that! ( I am newly 57...for reference)

 

I appreciate the comment app out being glad there was nothing radical that might cause me to have buyer's remorse with my '16...except...

At 24 years old, I am awaiting the delivery of my 16 silverado, custom order.

But, I also have an 88 Pontiac Fiero that has 1 key for the trunk and doors, and another for ignition.



On the original topic of this thread, I am grateful that I had to order my truck as a 16, because the reason I got the convenience package was for the backup camera, which is now no longer an option in 17.
