White lettered brand name on tires

I personally do not like the looks of tire brands outlined in white on the side of my tires. Tire manufacturers such as Michelin appear to be dropping the "Black Side Wall" choice from their most popular sizes. Turning the tires so the white letters show inward looks worse in my opinion. I fully respect a person's choice to advertise their chosen tire brand, sound system, oil treatment, or other equipment. However this choice should not be imposed. I phoned Michelin's customer service and it was told to me there is a demand for the white lettering. I imagine the demand will increase when their isn't a choice! I am wondering if the demand for white lettering is actually increasing or are we being manipulated into doing some free advertising?

White letter tires went out of style back in the 80s. Back when I had my 04 the only tires I liked were white lettered so I had them put the white letters in and stopped and picked up some black tire paint which is nothing but flat black paint and painted over them so they cant be seen on the inside. I don't like white letter tires either and don't see them coming back in style.

I like your comment, "save the 5 spd V8!" Great combination! I appreciate the look and function of a good quality tire. All tires have their brand boldly marked on the sidewall but I prefer the single colour tires. In the past I have actually purchased white wall tires and two-tone trucks but these were choices.

On my previous set of Cooper AT3's, I just turned the white letters inside. After a few months of drivng, they were so dirty on the inside that you couldn't even read them any more, haha. As others have stated, you could always paint them black too. If you find a brand/tread design/size that you really like, I wouldn't let the white letters deter you from running them.

Cost cutting. The manufacturer makes one tire that they sell to all customers instead of 2 different tires. You want choice? You have it 2 choices. Take it or leave it!

I originally thought this was a cost saving strategy but am no longer convinced. There is much more involved in adding a white rubber layer in the manufacturing process of tires. Theoretically this should have been the option that was dropped if cost was the catalyst. Every tire retailer I go to says most customers prefer the BSW showing. Manufacturers such as Michelin have the white letter only choice on their most popular sizes. I believe we will see more trucks around with white advertising because we have no choice. Companies love to have their names boldly displayed on all four corners of our trucks!

I'm not sure on the white walls, I had the craptastic wrangler SRA's on my truck for the first couple weeks, they came on the truck white letters out. I bought some Cooper ATP's, my Dad was nice enough to offer to run the truck up for me to have the new tires put on, I was busy at work and didn't think to bring up the subject, he came back with the white lettering out, I kinda like it, I guess I'm a redneck lol.

 

If you don't like 'em just put the white letters in, like someone said in a few weeks they'll be so dirty you'll never see the white and really who looks at the inside of their tire side wall anyways.....

You're absolutely correct that you have a choice. Tires usually work the same in both directions. I personally think putting white letter tires with the letters facing inward is not the intent of the manufacturer and doing so looks like you are putting the tires on backwards. White letters on the inside are not as noticeable on lower vehicles but are visible on trucks. Letters on tires, badges, decals, paint, chrome etc. do not impact the performance of our vehicles but we all have preferences.
