Bumper protection?

I just bought a 2016 LTZ Z71 midnight edition last week. It took a whole 5 days for some a$$ to pull into his spot a little too far and hit my rear bumper. Luckily it was just a tap. Looks like itll buff out. Ppl dont care here at all, and no matter how far away you park the spots around you fill in because there are just so many people here during the day. Since i mostly back into my spots, im looking for some kinda bumper protection for the rear. Kinda like a brush guard i guess but for the back. I was also thinking of a bull bar in the front, not sure though.

Anyone have something for that? Pics of it installed? Thanks

Agreed, I have had good luck with people hitting that and not doing any body damage to my truck. Got hit on the highway in stop and go traffic about 5 years ago in my 02 Silverado, guy hit me at about 20 mph, tore up his entire front bumper and only caved in a small square piece on the rear of the hitch, seemed to be the finish plate to make it look nice

Count me in for a third vote on the trailer ball. I got rear ended once in my '01, did $2200 worth of damage to my bumper...crazy. I now put a lock on the receiver and throw away the key.

I had a car hit my 2010Traverse in the rear end.

I ran up town because we forgot to get ice for camping.

I already had my WD hitch on.

It punched a one foot hole in their car bumper.

ZERO damage to the Traverse because they stopped before the hitch hit anything solid under the bumper.

Still must have been a few thousands of dollars of damage to their car.

I know what you mean I pay extra to park in one of the better lots at my work.

In with the VP and the president and they all drive nice cars so they are careful.

Funny this lot has larger parking spots to....

Actually, you bumper is your protection and it did it's job. It protected your truck.

Sorta...the bumper actually twisted down and into the bed. Had two small dents in either side of the bed. Also bent the bumper supports. Brought into the Chevy dealer for repairs....they nailed it (meaning half*ss, close enough) on their third attempt.

But yes, had the bumper not been there, would have been worse, I still honestly feel that a receiver with ball would have more than likely not done that. I don't think I had a hitch on that truck at the time. Been a while though.

True the bumper did its job, but i dont feel like having to repaint/repair because grown adults cant park. The hitch seems like the way to go so far.

I find it funny I responded to this thread a few days ago and now just today I got rear-ended in one of our work vans that has a 3 ball hitch on it, destroyed the front of the VW that hit me and I was perfectly fine LOL

I had a person drive his Mercedes into my hitch a few years back. It made a perfect hole in his front grill.

Ya but that's pretty rare I would say to get hit on just the corner. Either way the hitch receiver is cheap insurance. I usually kept mine unless I needed to tow, but after a buddy was at a stoplight and got rear ended by an old small truck going maybe 15 and it did nothing to his receiver. So since then I just keep it in the hitch. And actually it did protect my '14 the first week I had it. I was pulling my uncle home and he didn't hit the brake hard enough and ran into my truck. It wasn't hard, might not have even been hard enough to do anything to the bumper, but I don't think it even put a scratch on the receiver.

But, I don't think there's anything that will give the whole bumper protection other than buying an HD rear bumper. those small tube bumpers you see on pre-runner style trucks don't really do much protection at speed, at least from just looking at it.

lol had a moron with a beat up cavilier run into my triball hitch, i dragged him across a parking lot and over a curb to get his car off my hitch and then it ripped the whole plastic bumper off the front of his car. he wasnt impressed i laughed for hours on that one

I roughed up my bumpers and had bullet liner sprayed on mine so it's black and matches my black truck and looks beefy as hell. I suggest it! I never worry now.
