Top Tier fuel in-depth article

Some interesting articles. The Top Tier article does not specifically address GDI engines in depth but (from Top Tier ) "AAA did a great job showing where in the engine you can benefit from gasoline meeting the TOP TIER™ performance standard and even commented on GDI engines (see section 2 of their report on pages 9 and 10; and the sub-section on emissions found in section 5.3 – page 19). www.TopTierGas.com

And an article on using different fuel grades:

These articles are for you to read and you may or may not agree, so these are just for your info.

Bob thanks for the links very informative. I have been using Shell 93 octane in my 2016 Denali 6.2 which does require premium fuel. My last tank of Shell 93 Octane set off "engine reduced power" warnings (truck has about 5000 miles on it) I think due to a recent fuel shortage here in Middle TN they had BAD gas in their tanks. Can you find us an article on how to easily test the octane level right at the pump? I was looking at a Russian made device called a PORTABLE FUEL OCTANE NUMBER ANALYZER TESTER METER OKTIS-2

If you get a chance can you do some research to see if this is a Putin (aka Pooting) ripoff or maybe it is legit. If legit I am ordering one right away LOL

The thing that sucks about buying 93 octane (in addition to its premium price) is you never know how long it has been in the underground tank. You go to a busy gas station, and you can be fairly certain the 87 is being bought and replaced a lot so it is fresh..

I always (when I can) bypass a closer Top Tier station in order to buy from a busy Top Tier station just for that reason. Plus, in my case, the farther station has a lower price.

My local Costco gas station is always PACKED, so much so they doubled the size of the station, from 8 pumps to 16. 90% of the time, that's where I buy my fuel, since they go through so much you know it doesn't sit in the ground very long.

At about 9000 miles I switched to BP. After reading all the articles on it, fig it can't hurt. It's the only Top Tier station around me. I can remember when people would always say "stay away from BP fuel".

Ran the suspected bad tank of gas down till the low fuel light came on today. Stopped in at my friendly neighborhood market where they sell nonethanol premium 93 octane fuel bought 20 gallons will run that through to clean everything out. I might try some Costco premium fuel after this tank to see how it does. My local Shell station where I think I got the bad fuel from still has the sign up NO Premium gas, regular gas only available, not sure I will ever go back there. We are still having spotty gas shortages here due to a gas line break in AL it has everything messed up right now.

Pay attention to the pumps fine print at a BP station... I came across a BP station the other day that had printed low on the pump "Not BP Fuel". So BP stations are no guarantee that BP sanctioned fuel in the tanks. Causes one to wonder how fast and loose other stations are playing with the fuel game. Many stations, even the so-called big name ones, will have various tanker companies make their fuel deliveries. State measures and controls standards folks do not usually test for whether fuel is actually TT or not. They are concerned with accuracy of fuel delivery volume, so generally, there is no state government oversight on something like TT. Sad that consumer has to pay attention to such details, but as always has been the case, caveat emptor.

Need a portable tester. The videos for the OKTIS-2 are all in russian but it looks like the silly thing works? No real info on accuracy...... need one that really works so I can feel confident running my Premium fuel tune knowing that I am 100% running premium octane fuel. I have lost trust in the fuel delivery system after watching this huge melt down in middle TN.
